===== Out Now: CORKER/CONBOY 'IN THE LIGHT OF THAT LEARNT LATER' VFORM023LP/ VFORM023CD (Released March 7th) The debut long-player from London's Adrian Corker and Paul Conboy (who you may also know in their other guises as Ape and Soul Circuit, or as Tim Simenon's current collaborators of choice) is already garnering rave reviews (...a gorgeous amalgam of folkish guitars, Eno-esque electronics and poignant, muted brass..." **** MOJO. "A unique and shining little gem." BBC Experimental Review). 'In The Light Of That Learnt Later' fuses pastoral post-rock with elegant electronics and subtle beats to produce one of the most gorgeous instrumental treasures of recent years. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------ Coming Soon: SIXTOO 'ANTAGONIST SURVIVAL KIT' VFORM026LP / VFORM026CD (Released April 7th) Haligonian (ie:'from Halifax, Nova Scotia') alt.hip hopper and Anticon luminary Vaughn Robert Squire - aka Sixtoo - releases his much anticipated debut Vertical Form album. In the wake of the critically lauded 'Outremont Mainline Runs Across The Sunset'12" (VFORM 025), 'Antagonist Survival Kit' proffers ten astounding, genre-defying tracks that owe as much to Tom Waits, Harry Partch and Will Oldham as hip hop's tried and true. Sixtoo is widely regarded as a superstar-in-waiting. SIXTOO 'ANTAGONIST SURVIVAL KIT INSTRUMENTALS' VFORM027 / VFORM027CD (Released May 26th) A companion piece to the above, Sixtoo's 'Instrumentals' is the Vertical Form debut album shorn of the man's taut, paranoid lyrics. The CD version adds two tracks from the recent 'Outremont Mainline...' 12". 'Instrumentals' throws new light on 'Antagonist's...' wonderfully crafted sonic terrain, blending choice samples, myriad acoustic instruments and a never-less-than-groovy subsoil of beats into an evocative, thought-provoking mix. Sixtoo is embarking on a brief Canadian tour with Amon Tobin: March 27 : Kingston (@ Elixer) March 28 : Guelph (@ Trasheteria) March 29 : London (@ Call The Office) March 30 : Peterborough (@ Trasheteria) & further dates with DJ Vadim: April 9th - Toronto (@ Lee'sPalace) April 10th - Quebec City (@LeKashmir) April 11th - Ottawa (@Babylon) April 12th - Montreal (@LaSalaRosa) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ SMYGLYSSNA 'WE CAN FIX IT (REMIXES)' VFORM028LP / VFORM028CD (Released Jun 16th) This set of make-overs from 2002's We Can Fix It opus (VFORM015LP/CD), finds Sweden's Henrik Johansson (who is Smyglyssna) in the company of Soft Pink Truth (one half of San Franciscan electronic enfants terribles Matmos), hip hop star Boom Bip, Anticon luminaries Sixtoo and Restiform Bodies, along with Icelandic soundscapers Einoma and Brighton fusionists Fujiya & Miyagi. Smyglyssna also adds one remix and one new solo track. The album's eclectic remit means everything from ambient soundscaping to crunching Krautrock beats and ethereal atmospherics get a look in, but nonetheless, it works as a smart, modernist album in its own right. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------- Other news: Prolific Swede Smyglyssna is currently working on a new album project with a variety of collaborations (including mc's/guitarists/percussionists etc) - the album is slated for winter 2003 release. Einoma are hard at work on a new album due for delivery in May, for release in September. The Icelandic electronicists promise something special, having spent months meticulously sculpting new tracks, along with a mysterious guitarist and French vocalist... The Rip-Off Artist is now working with Vertical Form and is presently at home in LA completing a house-based single to be released in June with an album to follow in Septenber. Fine electronic minimalist Nick Rapaccioli is currently finishing up the second of his trilogy of ep's. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------- March represses available now: VFORM014LP / VFORM014CD: Various Artists, 'Pro Bono Publico' (featuring: Pan American, Kim Hiorthoy, Corker/Conboy and Iso68) VFORM017LP / VFORM017CD: Pan American: 'The River Made No Sound' ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ----------------------------------- It's in our interests that Vertical Form products are available everywhere around the world.
