After listening to Skimsitta, that's how I feel. Sample usage is unimaginative, synth tone is uncreative, and the song structure is absent. Mostly a play of textures and rhythms that sounds amateurish. My guess is that her tutor from Ae (I forgot which one) left her to her own devices on this record, and it sure sounds like it. There are so many better artists that deserve to be on Warp (for the exposure). -mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Touche. I didn't have all the facts about their personal lives before posting, and if I had been in a better mood on reading the original post I wouldn't have been so crude. On the same note, don't think you know anything about me other than my name and my e-mail address. Asshole. If a relevant fact, such as a personal relationship (again, I apologize, this is how I should have phrased it before) is common knowledge, there should be no problem addressing that in the context of a discussion about that artist. I'm not the first person to draw the connection between her being signed to Warp and her relationship with Sean. I certainly won't be the last. If you don't want something unflattering said about you, don't do something unflattering. As I learned from my original post.

well, I'll have to agree with you there, chris. It seems most people want to deter folks from speaking about the art they dislike...and that happens mostly because most people can't talk about something they dislike without getting crude and juvenile which can be embarrassing (jesus kriste that's fucking stupid!*%) and depressing (fucking hell...! is there nothing more in the world?!*$%). If the less-educated morons didn't cause so many problems, the more-educated morons wouldn't want to control and regulate as much. educate AND enlighten, not just the former, a trained termite is still just a termite. --- Christopher Dilkus <cpdilkus@snip.net> wrote:

Well Christopher if you "didn't have all the facts" than why are commenting on shit you know nothing about? I felt like your post was an IDM equivalent of Beavis & Butthead post. Uhh...there like doing it yeah yeah there banging huh huh < If a relevant fact, such as a personal relationship (again, I apologize, this is how I should have phrased it before) is common knowledge, there should be no problem addressing that in the context of a discussion about that artist. > I think most people know that Mira Calix is married to one of the members of Autechre (Sean I believe) and in case you didn't know Plaid played at the wedding party. I think it's great to make critical comments on their work, what you like and don't like. Making up stupid threads about this artist being gay or that artists is banging so & so is pointless.

Perhaps I'm one of the few people on this list that actually wants to hear recommendations about good releases and stuff to look out for. What significance? Read the subject line. It's a possible answer to the question. We have to drop an artist...should it be Plone or the one who's married to one of our biggest money-makers? Well Christopher, there are many possibilities for why Plone isn't on Warp, why Mira Calix is, etc., etc. Does it really matter? I'm sure both artists have their fan base and will continue to release material. If there's someone on the list that actually has inside information then share it, otherwise it's speculation that's not really going to provide any benefit to the list. And it's likely to insult the artists and label. As i mentioned before I'm on this is list to learn about other releases and to share what I know, recommend, etc. Speculating, talking crap and other useless posts don't advance quality discussion. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Here's another "relevant" fact for you: she worked as Warp's press office before being signed. Nepotism, anyone? But seriously, Plone were dropped because Rob Mitchell passed away, and no-one else at Warp like Plone. Broadcast were rumoured to be going the same way.
