Just to put the story straight on some of the misinfo flying around here, GPO did not have any influence on the acid house scene. He very publicly tried to jump the bandwagon a bit too late in the day and was extremely unsuccessful. He became seen as a charlatan and laughing stock as he went around giving interviews claiming to have single-handedly invented the scene. He released an atrocious fake 'acid house compilation' with made up bands, name of it escapes me but it had a union jack on the cover. Also I believe he is completely anti-drug so the jacking up in an alleyway fears are likely to be groundless. I gather thee temple ov psuckik yoof was not so much a 'countercultural youth tribe' as a mail order fan club. I knew a guy who joined but balked when he was supposed to send them a sample of semen drawn at dawn or somesuch. I think it all became a bit marilyn manson for the british. Not being any sort of expert on acid house, didn't it come around about '85-86? PTV were still singing pop songs about dead Stones at that point.

"Jack the Tab"-- it had one really good song, imo, but it was a double-album...

I don't believe this to be true at all. I seem to remember seeing a large use of hallucinogens in PTV live videos (the "Black Video"?).

Depends on which TOPY group or troupe or whatever they called themselves you belonged to, really. Yeah, not to mention there was that whole Psychick Warriors Ov Gaia thing and all, not PTV or Genesis, but obviously clued into the same wavelength. PWOG's first 12", Exit 23, I believe, came out in 89 or so -- very early "acid" house (depsite the lack of a 303). cheers w --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

October 1990 CMJ conference, Hotel Vista, WTC NYC: -Panel discussion w/ KRS-1 (probly something political, cant quite remember) -GPO, short grey hair and wearing a grey Priest's shirt/outfit, stands up from the audience during the middle of the panel discussion, and asks, "What I want to know is, how many of you have done acid?" man it was so weird. His remark was completely out of context. Acid house was on it's way down and the chinstrokers in the room kinda put their hands over their eyes, like "oh boy, please don't do this to yourself, buddy" such a sad first in-the-flesh GPO intro for me! But I still love that rekkid w/ the godstar song on it. Ill go back & jerk off now. The DVD amazed! Collaged bits; looks like it's by the same individual who did Bola's 'Fyuti' and 'Mauver' covers, IMO. Broken beats, hip-hop, abstract, ambient. Very, very, very, nice!
