Hey all – I’ve been a lurker on this list for awhile. I’d thought I’d introduce myself with an embarrassing confession and an interesting discovery. Confession first: I work out using DDRMax, the dancepad rhythm game on the playstation 2. Sure, I look like an idiot, but somehow, the act of hitting the proper pad with my foot in time with the arrows on the screen manages to distract that part of my brain that would otherwise be thinking about how I’d rather be doing almost anything else. The biggest drawback: the music, which ranges from uninspired techno to hideously awful trancey crap. So a couple of days ago I decide to try something different. I turn the game sound off and I cue up the CD in my cd player – which happens to be Boards of Canada, seemingly unpromising material for a workout session. Lo and behold, the first couple of songs I try sync up almost perfectly with the game. I’m sweatin’ to IDM! I had less luck with some other artists, but no matter – all I need to do is to find some vaguely danceable 140-150 bpm IDM tunes and I’m set. I wish I’d thought of this sooner, but in all honesty it hadn’t occurred to me that one could actually, you know, dance to Intelligent Dance Music. Clearly Konami (the game maker) needs to get to work on IDDRMax right away (Sorry if you’re seeing this post twice – I tried to post it a couple days back but it didn’t seem to take. But maybe it did and I just missed it.) -- http://www.dimflash.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
