Anybody know what Brothomstates is up to? I'm listening to the live set that was posted on some website last week- wonderful stuff, especially the one with the computer vocals and the other harder track towards the end. Definitely on pace with their Claro record. brothomstates.com hasn't been updated in a while. I'm hoping they're planning on recording some of this sometime soon. Fingers crossed.

http://www.defaultresponse.com/ I think this might be the same live set, maybe a few months old though. If there is another one floating around it would be cool to know about. I agree with Brian that this material is up there with Claro, if not better. Probabley better in my opinion. One of these tracks is also on the Warp Pool Party mix, which hopefully is a sign that the tracks will make it on the next Brothomstates release. Can't wait! --- Hans J?rgen Hoel <hansjorg@orakel.ntnu.no> wrote:

the computer voice on the track just over half way through is from Shpongle's Star Sphongled Banner ...fascinating music from simon posford et al. 'the sun is purple 'iam for mental extensions'...etc... check out dIVINE mOMENTS OF tRUTH and dorset perception. posford takes care of you with lush sounds and a keen ear for psychedelic experiences, though of a very different variety than ae, a quite mainstream sort of exposition. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? brothomStates is releasing on Twisted Records, home of Simon Posford (aka hallucinogen or one half of Shpongle). The psytrance scene is lost and uninspired these days, so it's nice to see Lassi giving some fresh air over there. Shpongle is a little bit too much pan-moods-world-music-from-a new-age-shop for me. And ofcourse, too many obvious references to drugs. Go see some info at: http://www.twisted.co.uk/ It's listed under unreleased; it's one shpongle remix on vinyl and one track on Unusual Suspects 2. -- !dwave! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

planning on recording some of this sometime soon. Fingers crossed. That live set really is something isn't it? I was supposed to be going to that set but had to work unfortunately. The track in the Default Live set with the computer vocals is actually a remix of someone else - can't remember exactly what though. But then again, Claro also featured two tracks that were basically remixes of other peoples work. I believe Warp are planning some new brothomStates releases this year. I'm sure I heard that somewhere and now I can't remember where.. Does anyone know any more about this? Can't wait for a new full length (or ep) from brothomStates. Claro is the best thing to come out of the Warp label in a very long time. It was disgusting how the album was treated by the press as "just another Autechre knock-off". )Jq. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

That's exactly how the album came off sounding to me. Granted it was better than most of the other knock off artists (and there's a whole lot out there... back in 96-99 Ae's was the most copied style of any IDM artist... now it's BoC), but the structures, sounds and melodic progressions are VERY reminiscent of Amber, Tri Rep and the early-mid era remixes. They pull it off well, but i didn't see them as the best thing on Warp in 2001. THAT title belongs to Chris Clark... who I'd MUCH rather see a sophomore album from than Brothomstates. -Mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I'll drink to Chris Clark - his album arouses such mixed emotions on the Planet Mu board. I happen to think it was sensational, wish I hadn't slept on it so long. But some people seem to absolutely detest it. Incidentally, Joseph Nothing and com.a are two others I need to get around to buying - and then I should kiss their asses to do something with my label. :) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Yup, Chris Clark > Brothomstates. I couldn't believe how great his album was. It's my favourite album to put on just after waking up.
