hey all,
One of these has already been briefly mentioned by someone else, but wanted
to mention the latest couple of monotonik mp3 releases, in both retro
videogame beep and a lo-fi electronica flavors. :)
You can download these, as always, for free in a mp3 stylee at:

Various - "Best Of AHX Vol.1:Dexter's Pinkboratory"
http://www.mono211.com/content/releases/mtkmp96.html
[I'm imagining a bunch of you are aware of the Commodore 64 and its .SID
chip, from which heavenly synthetic sounds have emanated for about 15 years
now. But what if there was a SID++? That's the kind of sound you get with
the obscure Commodore Amiga 'tracking' program AHX. For picking the best
tunes ever composed in the format, we went straight to the source, Martin
'Dexter' Wodoks and Manfred 'Pink' Linzner, the original creators of the AHX
tracker format as members of Abyss, and nowadays successful Nintendo
Gameboy/Gameboy Advance developers, with games such as "Iridion" and music
for titles like "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater" with their company Shinen. So we
feature 10 tracks from C64-er D'aizl/Mystic, Pink/Abyss himself, and the
underground phenomenon Geir Tjelta. You can download the original AHX tracks
with a Winamp plugin, or .MP3s of all the tracks - seriously neat retro-ish
beep-tastic heaven.]

Grandma - "Bopping Around In A Skin Car EP"
http://www.mono211.com/content/releases/mtkmp95.html
[After numerous plaudits for the first EP Monotonik released from US-based
Grandma, including 'Net-Audio Release of the Month' in cult German
paper-magazine De:Bug, we were keen to press on and put out some more
material from the 15-year-old prodigy, who we think is one of the most
amazing artists we've ever released on Mono. This time, we've got a
4-tracker showcasing more of his diverse and eccentric talent, put together
with just an old PC and rickety microphone, as before, but radiating lo-fi
soul all the same. And to add my admittedly biased two penny's worth, I
count Grandma amongst artists like Venetian Snares or Bogdan in that.. well,
when you hear them you know there's something different and exciting and
rare about them. Hopefully someone'll sign him up for real-life CD/vinyl
goodness soon.]
regards,
h0l@monotonik.
