This marks the year where I greatly reduced the amount of albums I purchased, compared to my previous 5 years of life :D That said, the amount of stuff that I'm listening to is still remarkably the same (and I'm not even downloading mp3s!). There's just fewer things that I'm getting and not listening to (because they sorta suck...). And in hindsight, I'm going to have to say that I think I like the Boards of Canada album the most this year. A good progression from their past work with really good new elements while still holding on to some good beats and melodies that they're known for. Yeah, I'm boring. For months I just couldn't get with Geogaddi despite my love of all their previous stuff, particularly the preceding Out in a Beautiful Place ep - but just lately it's clicked for me - how? Ensuring that it's a on shuffle play everytime I listen to it - played straight it still bores me, but randomly it's like a sonic kaleidoscope... which of course syncs with the cover artwork. I got much music this year (though less than previous years), but the best music, the stuff I enjoyed the most, was not released in 2002. It was new to me, but not new. I guess my favorite discovery was that I really liked Kid 606's "GQ On The EQ++", and also Jim O'Rourke's "I'm Happy And I'm Singing..." I also really liked Tori Amos' "Scarlet's Walk" - good new album from her for a change. I guess I don't really have a "best album" for 2002. At least not IDM.

I was quite looking forward to the new Hrvatski cd, given how excellent his last one on rkk was but I have to say I was totally dissapointed with this disc. It comes across like a collection of left overs and noodles. It's a shame too because he could have been a contender. Amelie, on the other hand, is an excellent film.
