Well Amon has always said he doesn't play live - what he does is collage and completely studio-based and he doesn't think doing it live would work, so he DJ's. The concept mentioned above, sticking a bunch of loops into Ableton Live, has unfortunately been ruined for me by seeing Funkstorung a few weeks ago, off their nuts (or at least very pissed) playing a "live set" which was the most tedious set of hip-hop beats and 'storung-loops, which practically didn't change at all, with fuck-all live effects or fucking around... I mean, I think they could've done something pretty exciting, and I'm a fan of their stuff, but this was sloppy and boring as fuck. A few times they even dropped the beat for the next song half-way through the bar, which was pretty off-putting. I think it was just a bad gig (the Sydney gig of their Australian tour if you're interested) but even a good gig with this setup would've been pretty boring and disappointing. I saw them @ the Knitting Factory in NY in 1999, before I was much of a fan, and they kicked ass, mad fucking around with live effects. Somehow the switch to what I presume was Ableton Live or something similar just made them tedious dickheads. My AUD$0.02 worth. :) Peter -- Peter Hollo raven@fourplay.com.au http://www.fourplay.com.au/blog/ FourPlay - Eclectic Electric String Quartet http://www.fourplay.com.au/ Raven: experimental electronica http://www.fourplay.com.au/raven.html "Of course, dance music can be a music where you lie on your back and your brain cells dance" - Michael Karoli of Can, quoted in Wire mag. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
