i know this may not have a lot of immediate interest for many of you(and it should), but for those that appreciate contemporary composition outside of the realm of electronic music, here's something that i think will be worth checking out: What: a performance of György Ligeti's "Ramifications" (for 12 solo strings, 1968-69) and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra with Ursula Oppens on piano, Harrison Birtwistle's "Carmen Arcadiae Mechanicae Perpetuum" (1981), and William Russell's "Chicago Sketches" (1940), performed by the Oberlin Percussion Group. Who: Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble with a guest appearance by Ursula Oppens(perhaps one of the best known champions of new music, pianist), and conducted by Timothy Weiss, and the Oberlin Percussion Group with Michael Rosen conducting. When and Where: Friday, November 8, 7:30pm, Gartner Auditorium in the Cleveland Museum of Art Another performance in Oberlin's Finney Chapel on Sunday November 10, 8pm. Why you should go: very rarely are we presented with such important works performed by such noted musicians. it's history, people, and it has everything to do with the music that we discuss in this forum everyday. Admission: at the Museum, it's $15 for general, and $8 for musuem members; $5 for students. i'm not sure about admission to Oberlin's performance, but you can call 440.775.8121 for more information. If you'd like to buy tickets, or make furthur inquiries about the Firday performance at the Museum, call 216.421.7340. I hope to see a lot of you there, and look forward to informing all of you about the Museum's AKI festival which takes place biennially at the museum, and showcases the world's leading new music composers (along with electronic musicians as well--we had stockhausen back in the day) best, johnny --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
