just bought a beautifull but expensive Hammerfall DSP multiface. Unfortunately it hasn't proved to be as stable as i thought. In cubase 5.1 it clicks and hesitates, especially when i open VSTi's like reaktor. I've got XP setup to maximize background services and other XP tune-ups. Even did a re-install. no luck. Any one have any ideas? thanks- spleenless --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

set up an external recorder, and document the hesitations and clicks. find ways to crash it often and record that as well. spleenless wrote:

Hello cj, Thanks. i've got samples of it tha i've sent to RME. It occurs when ever there is a large change in screen movement or processor usage is near 50%.No crashes just pops and audio hesitations. The machine is stable as hell asside from this issue. thanks a bunch for any help, man. jc Cubase 5.1 reaktor 3.4, audio mulch DELL inspiron 8200 P4 1.6ghz 512 64mb nvidia go440 Sunday, November 03, 2002, 10:11:13 PM, you wrote: c> set up an external recorder, and document the hesitations and clicks. find c> ways to crash it often and record that as well. c> spleenless wrote:

Not probably a topic for IDM, but the Hammerfall DSP system is sensitive to the motherboard chipset and will have problems with pops, clicks and breakups on some boards. The worst offenders are the Via chipsets. Intel chipsets tend to do the best, because they have the most correct, highest-throughput PCI implementation. Others people have used with good luck are the AMD 761 chipset, the Nvidia NForce chipset, and the SiS 735 and 74x chipsets. It is not unusual even on a perfectly functioning system to get sound breakups during the opening of softsynths, but once they're loaded, you shouldn't have any problems until you max out your CPU. And you do need to tune the ASIO latency for your system -- running 3 msec latency really taxes a computer. The only time you really need low latency is when you want to play softsynths live from a keyboard; in my case I generally use 6 msec latency when doing live stuff, and 23 or 46 when I'm tracking or mixing. Again without knowing what hardware you're running on I can't begin to guess what your problem is. On Sun, 3 Nov 2002, cj wrote:
