futuresonic<02> The UK's National Festival of Music, New Media and Digital Arts 6-10 NOVEMBER 2002 - VARIOUS VENUES ACROSS MANCHESTER A plethora of great artists and great music all neatly packaged up in a mutlitude of Manchester's finest venues. Amongst this year's attractions will be the Blacktronica event with King Britt (USA), Charlie Dark (Attica Blues) and Dego (4hero) at the helm, Fat City's 9th Anniversary ft. Qool DJ Marv & DJ Spinbad (NY), Mouse on Mars (Germany), Matthew Herbert (Radio Boy), Maryanne Amacher (USA), Barbara Morgenstern (Germany), Phill Niblock (USA) and a gaming/graffiti/breaking event with local hip-hop heros Sub Tub. futuresonic offers a unique experience for fans of music, the arts and clubbing alike. Staged over five days at key venues across Manchester, the event offers an exciting mix of live performances, club nights, multimedia showcases, interactive installations, workshops and talks by leading figures working in music and new media. Bridging the chasm between dance culture and the art world, futuresonic presents the most exciting developments in both areas in an accessible and enjoyable way. Mouse on Mars are teased out of the studio for a live performance alongside some of the leading lights of the electronica scene, including a rare live performance by Maryanne Amacher. Radio Boy (Matthew Herbert) tops the bill during the day at Migrations, a packed programme of showcases featuring everything from French/Lebanese hip hop to agit-electronica, alongside debates and provocative interventions that add some spice to the proceedings by giving a sonic poke in the eye to George Bush, Tony Blair and the BNP. King Britt flys in for Blacktronica, playing alongside Charlie Dark (Attica Blues), Dego (4hero) and other leading lights of the BrokenBeats scene at the Music Box (the epicentre of Manchester's underground dance scene) on Friday 8th, launching a national tour produced by futuresonic that will feature workshops and spoken word events alongside the club shenannigans. futuresonic hosts a Friends & Family special for Fat City Records 9th birthday party, featuring Qool DJ Marv vs DJ Spinbad plus in the back room: Staff vs Customers (past & present Fat City shop staff and customers battle it out over the turntables followed by a lengthy discussion on who the producer was of each particular record, whether it was an original or bootleg that was played, how many cover versions have been done of it...etc etc..) For the tech heads and DJs out there, futuresonic present a range of specialist events, from events that stretch new kit and gadgets to the limit, to panels and sessions with leading industry figures. On the cross-roads of music, technology, leisure and urban culture, this annual festival explores the impact of modern media on musical production and performance. The futuresonic<02> festival will launch in Manchester the national Blacktronica tour, that will be visiting London, Bristol, Huddersfield and Birmingham as a part of the 'Brought to you by xxxxxxxxxxxxxx' series continuing its hugely successful run at the ICA in London and its first birthday. for full festival listings visit >>> www.futuresonic.com info&tickets>>> +44 (0)8700 600 100 www.futuresonic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
