i've been ignoring most of this music #2 thread because discussions like this generally bore the crap out of me -- classic me-me-me monologue, like standing in a room full of people one-upping each other with their favorite monty python lines. :) now that i've got that off my chest, i have to question something that mr. deadend said: "most electronic musicians are concerned with what equipment and plugIns they.re using" where do you get this idea? maybe most untrained, non-releasing bedroom musicians, but honestly, in years of interviewing musicians, i've never, ever heard anyone obsess over gear and software. now, maybe i just pick smarter musicians, but i doubt it. i think this is a sort of strawman comment that's been leveled at e-musicians of all stripes for years, but without real justification. (better, perhaps, to single out the metal guitarists who have endorsements all the way down to the strings they're using!) finally, to write of detroit techo as "lame" is just short-sighted. one may not *like* it, but i'm not sure how you can write off an entire genre (and all the genres wrapped up in it) without backing up the critique. for the record, pita, as well as many, many others, has his roots in detroit techno. philip sherburne managing editor, flavorpill sf http://www.flavorpill.net contributing editor, neumu http://www.neumu.net/needledrops do you want new wave or do you want the truth? http://www.audio.bobblehead.org/phil.html
