street level soundsystem is a collaborative improv electronic group from urbana illinois, consisting of andrew smith, jay eyehaner, and matt demmon. this cd is their second release as a group (they've released individually under various aliases), and was written and recorded live. the overall style is abstract cinematic ambience the cd breaks down into 6 trax ranging from just under 7 minutes, to a shy over 19 minutes. they build prehistoric cave ambience, with streaking dark tensions; deep tones lurk, and somber strings drift in like cemetary mist. some cuts have plodding beats, but its atmosphere that overpowers it all, some strains are noisy and disturbing, others isolating you in an off-world prison, seperated by dark, negative space. another track is lilting, chiming ambience in a soft, computer future. the cd is packaged in a hand stamped, individually numbered case. to check it out, and more, go to WRECKED diy electronics http://rhinoplex.org/wrecked - cutups
