Hi, is anbody here familiar with the experimental avant-garde composer simon fisher turner? i picked up a copy of his latest album and realised that it comes with a cd and dvd (for the price of a standard 1 cd album). The dvd contains all the music from the cd plus visuals to go along with the music. I'm rather impressed with this concept, i'd definetly like to see something like this being released by ambient/idm acts, so have any other artists released albums like this? Or will this be the format that many new album releases will take? etc, etc... The Mute label appears to be making a habit out of variations on this - the NON record they've just released ("Children of the Black Sun") comes with a bonus DVD that remixes the music in DVD 5.1 surroundsound format (the Quadrophonic of the 00's!) - no visuals though except a static image that mirrors the CD cover. It's quite a good record by the way, even if the supplementary disc seems a little bogus. I don't know anything else about this guy eather, but I think the album/dvd is fantastic! It's very strange, and after listinging to it a handful of times now, I have yet to figure out what it sounds like! Very origional with a very odd sense of world beat recordings therein. Donna Summer

Also of interest in SFT's early acting career: http://www.panam.edu/faculty/hood/sftacting.html Highlights include: Jarman's Caravaggio, The Big Sleep w/ Robert Mitchum and lots of British early 70's tv shows like Tom Brown's Schooldays, and also his affair with Brit Eckland! -thor On Mon, 7 Oct 2002, donna summer wrote:

i saw bits and pieces of the dvd and was especially impressed with the smoke material. as far as simon fisher turner's music goes, i've been a fan of his soundtrack work for years. he scored the bulk of derek jarman's films. my favorite scores being "the garden" and "the last of england." both are broad conceptually, mixing in street noise, conversation, the voice of tilda swinton, and loads more. still available on cd, i believe. he also has released many other cds, including one with rimbaud. there's an old one, i think it's called "dark melt," which is great. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!?
