Self-examination of the gig I played on October 30th 2002 at artwatch Set one, solo I was nervous, and I was afraid of locking up and not playing anything at all so decided to play the loudest sound that I could produce, and then just let everything else just happen. I think the first part of my solo set was the best part, it had dynamics and a jagged flow that both worked and didn't work at the same time. I think the first part ended well. The second part of my solo set didn't go as well I tried to make both vocal sounds and play the harmonica at the same time, the vocal sound was too loud and the harmonica was to soft, but it was interesting. The third part was a pretty somewhat classical thing that I do sometimes, but this was the first time I played it in front of people. Set two, duet with steve good. Steve good has a calming presence and made me feel comfortable. The first part of the set was insane it was like a free jazz player and a scat singer gone mad vocal sounds spit out of me with out me even wanting them to, steve and I flowed jaggedly through one bizarre thing to another bizarre thing. It was beautiful. The second part began with a wailing sound and then proceeded to become a sparse blanket of sound, I let steve have control during this part and I just made as few sounds as possible, at the end I made attempt at chanting, and other forms of non-word vocalization, im not sure if it worked, but it felt like the right thing to do. Set three, duet with greg acker. Greg is a very mellow guy, and every time I have worked with him I felt calm. The first part was a call and response type thing that slowly be came a tone poem, as I tried to match gregs tones/mood/volume. Around the end I once again attempted some vocalazation. The second part began with greg playing a very mellow and pretty tone that inspired me to play mostly low end/ mid range sounds, and the sparce high pitched sound and/or clicking sounds. At one point during the second part I began to sing low end tones, I thing it worked that time. Set four, quartet with zan hoffman, and two people from eastern Europe. Im still thinking about this set. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
