Just use lame... crikey!!!
wav2lame has been renamed its called all2lame now
http://home.wanadoo.nl/~w.speek/all2lame.htm
it takes different formats and i think can tag as it goes, if you've asked
this question in the first place i guess u wont be too bothered by this..
download it
http://home.wanadoo.nl/~w.speek/download/all2lame.zip
Then get lame, this is the recommended version
http://www.citay.de/lame3.90.2-ICL.zip
extract both into a directory and then run all2lame as shown on its
homepage.. select your files set the quality level by adding this to the
command lines
--alt-preset insane 320k CBR
--alt-preset extreme 230k VBR ish
--alt-preset fast extreme ^faster than above negligable difference in
quality filesize
--alt-preset standard 200k VBR ish
--alt-preset fast standard ^same as for extreme.. quicker slight quality
difference
You can list your files in order as you add them (remembering the windows
file name bug so click from the last file and shift arrow key navigate back
to the 1st file, this will add them in the correct order) and use the nogap
button to make gapless mp3s.. not perfect but not bad.. some players can
struggle.. my jukebox3 manages but it loses the ability to know the time of
mp3s correctly..
I recommend you go for --alt-preset fast standard it will probably be
sufficient for you.. if more quality is required go for extreme, thats what
I use, for the jukebox3.. if better quality is required then choose another
format.. ogg vorbis or better still MPEG+ ... if for portable use there are
other lower quality settings you can try.. namely
--alt-preset <bitrate>
ie. --alt-preset 128
creates files close to the target bitrate...
Enough anyways... thats the way to highest quality mp3s... :)
To get the waves in the first place use Exact Audio Copy ...
http://www.exactaudiocopy.de
takes some setting up but once done makes good rips and tells you if it
found problems.. needs a good CDROM, the best choice tho at the moment..
