Alright... I'm having a party soon at my apartment and I'm not in a position to have a DJ over or anything, so I'm on the lookout for any continuous mix CDs that will encourage party guests to keep their asses shaking. However, I don't want to run the risk of alienating people with music that is too esoteric for them to feel comfortable dancing to. So, with that in mind, could anyone suggest some mix CD's that put being eclectic and accessible at a high priority but still have the IDM flavor (and some hip hop as well perhaps)? Stuff that I think fits the bill for example might be the DJ Food mix cd or Marcia Blaine School for Girls. Alright. Thanks. -Aaron --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

the journeys by djs coldcut cd may be a perfect fit. some idm, some electro, much cutup, and hiphop. tracks include gescom, jedi knights, krs-one, plastikman, etc. came out five years ago or so, but word has it that has just been re-released. or go grab some tracks off www.lancelockarm.com and really confuse them (cuts like miss elliott + aphex twin, etc) b. someone earlier mentioned dj/rupture's minefield(?), in the context of "taken over as his favorite mix ever". is it really that good? and are any of the other journeys by dj decent? i'll chime in with a good word for the solidsteel stuff. the coldcut/kid606 one is especially enjoyable, in a party context. __michal On Fri, Sep 06, 2002 at 07:42:14AM -0700, b.phenix wrote:

Are you talking about the DJ Food Solid Steel mix, or the Coldcut JDJ mix? (DJ Food aren't Coldcut btw, they used to be part of DJ Food, and before that they used to BE DJ Food, but now they're seperate entities, or something like that anyways............ ) Both are very good anyway and would fit the bill. And there's loads of Solidsteel mixes in the ninjatune archive which you could rip and burn if you have the Streambox VCR software.......... Oh, and if you can face a slight electroc***h tinge, get the 2 Many DJ's cd, which will get *everyone* moving. Aaron Meyers wrote:

this might be hard to find, and it's not idm, but i love playing the dj z-trip and dj p cd 'uneasy listening' at parties. it's a lot of classic rock and pop and hiphop mixed together in surprising and amusing ways. people often will be talking or bopping around and then turn their heads and say 'what the fuck is this cd?!' when a mix happens. -rachel (aka dj pie) -- <underscore> You are in a dark twisty maze of connotations, all alike. piesarenice.net funkier than you. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Or possibly the DJ Food (all-Warp) Blech II mix? Yeah that's great as well, though maybe a bit too bleepy for a house party. Must dig that out, haven't listened to it in ages...... Actually one of my favourite party albums is v/vm's Green Door - it's usually best to wait till everyone's fairly wrecked then slip it on and see how long it takes till someone notices the gawdaweful sounds coming from the speakers. It's got the Birdie Song, the A-Team, BBC Snooker and Bergerac themes, some seriously messed pop 'remixes' and a pig butchering noise track :-) g. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
