well maybe you need to check out Minesweeper, which does both. i've seen the drummer at work--he plays on an analog kit while triggering a sequencer using foot pedals and a v-drum. he's also jojo meyer's (always ranks in the top tier of drummers by modern drummer magazine) protege...should be worth watching. jax ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "are you feelin' my timbs, my baggy jeans, my thug appeal?" -Montel Jordan MINESWEEPER Picture a trio of jazz cats bound together by their lack of pretense and their love of drum n bass. Now take it to the next level and imagine a live pa who simulatneously plays live instruments--what you're actually picturing is Guy Licata, drummer of the Minesweeper project. Armed with 3 snares, 3 high hats, 3 sets of rides and an electric drum, he mixes pre-sequenced beats and effects while shredding at 180bpm. His unorthodox setup emulates sampled and synthesized loops, the foundations of jungle/dnb. Of course, analog drum conspired with the gauntlet of effects and skill that is the progeny of Ben Bocardo's electric upright bass leaves room for Pete Drungle's texture-driven melodies on keyboard. Ben Bocardo [Topaz Records, Everlast, N'Dea Daveport] bass (it's electric) Pete Drungle [Ronald Shannon Jackson, Craig Harris, Rufus Wainwright] keys/synth Guy Licata drums/loops qualifies for following pigeon holes: drum n bass, downtempo, broken beat, trip hop, live pa, jazz for hip, edgy bad-asses. influences: Grooverider, Plug, Photek. next show: Thursday, August 29 (fuck the VMAs) Luxx, 256 Grand (between Driggs and Roebling) L train to Bedford 10pm $5 Guy will buy you a drink... _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
