this is funny... i work there and i'm listening to the christ cd right now... to me- it sounds very BoC-ish, but still great. a little more melodic on some of the songs, but still has the same "feel" and almost sounds like he's using some of the same samples or patches or whatever as BoC. i don't know if that helps any. - roy . . . ... .. ... brasilia http://www.unovis.org ... . . ..... . .. .. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? boc maxima was an unreleased lp with most of its tracks released officially on _twoism_ hard-to-find deleted lp & _hi-scores ep_ on skam and on _music has the right to children_. for the two official releases boc's page of their label _music70_ is a good source: http://www.music70.com/discog_twoism.html http://www.music70.com/discog_hiscores.html _whitewater_ is the ending track on boc maxima right before the alternate version of _one very important note_. it is a brilliant song, not too long, it's like an interval, but it's on the top. as for _boc maxima_ and some other officially un-released stuff (acid memories, play by numbers, hooper bay) boc has removed all information for their home page, but i've found a good place where one can browse them: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Boards_Of_Canada there are plenty more than what i know of...

appearently this is the work of the drummer on twoism (?) listening to some of this right now ('pylonesque'). very much in the vein of earlier BOC, what I've heard here could have totally been lifted off of twoism, complete with same sounding synths and samples of kiddie voices. if I heard this and was asked who it was, I would bet my neighbors life it was boards... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hi Scores is an early EP released on Skam - SKA008 - 6 tracks, imo the very bestest best they ever did. I believe it's recently been re- issued, so do search and get it!! The sooner the better. Maxima is one of those mythical 'did they or didn't they' early releases, highly sought after and exchanges hands at high prices on ebay. Whitewater? You got me there too :-) Christ - the non-Biblical one, has been discussed on this list recently. Check through the archives, since I don't have those mails anymore. Good luck finding the holy grail of BoC! I really lke the Christ release and based on how much people on this list love BOC I'm surprised that it hasn't been talked about much more, benbecula should be making tons of cash on this, it's just as good as boc releases, I guess you really need the brand name association for people to go nuts and buy tons of copies. As for Hi Scores, I would agree that it's their best release (along with the colonel abhrams jammie). I don't care much for maxima since it sounds very much like music has a right to... http://www.recordcamp.com ------Original Message----- -From: Irene McC [mailto:substar@iafrica.com] -Sent: Friday, August 23, 2002 1:44 PM -To: natbot@hotmail.com; idm@hyperreal.org -Subject: Re: [idm] boc extended universe.../christ - - -On 23 Aug 2002 at 10:00, nat hawks wrote: - -> ok, i plead ignorance... -> -> what the hell are all these releases? what is "Maxima" "Hi Scores" -> and Whitewater"?! - -Hi Scores is an early EP released on Skam - SKA008 - 6 tracks, imo -the very bestest best they ever did. This is true. There is an interview somewhere about this on the 'net. Apparently, Boc used to be a rotating membership type group. It worked it's way to the threesome and then the current duo. The Yahoo group for Boc has all this info... I don't have the complete version of Boc Maxima, but I've got: Nova Scotia Robots Sixtyniner Red Moss Concourse Carcan M9 Whitewater here's the complete track list: http://inf-inity.student.utwente.nl/chilledbeats/show_album.php?album_id =593 Here's everything they ever did: http://www.davidac.fsworld.co.uk/boc.htm I think that everything prior to Twoism was originally released on cassette and given to friends only. Damn I'd like to get that stuff... I wish I could share these out, but audiogalaxy blows these days and I don't see a way... Personally, I don't like to support things like SoulSeek (although these are prob there) or other leechy p2p's. I just think it's wrong to share out new releases (yes, I'm a nerd). I'd love to get the rest... Warp will reissue all the old BoC stuff soon, according to the rumours... Am I the ultimate fanboy or what? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

to be completely honest...this is the first time ive heard of "christ" and i picked up the 7 track album, and not suprisingly, i was pretty thrilled. i probobly would have picked it up alot earlier had i been aware of the musics psychidelic potency. i think thats why boc get as much love as they do. they kinda pick up where 60s and 70s experimental artists came down off the cloud. with that in mind, i do admit..it wouldnt suprise me much if this was made by michael and marcus. or even perhapse one of the lost members of music70. at any rate. this one is going to be in heavy rotation. thanks idm list. yet another great suggestion. mike (tangible) www.fulcruminn.net www.8bitpeoples.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Record Camp" <lists@activaire.com> To: <substar@iafrica.com>; <idm@hyperreal.org>; <natbot@hotmail.com> Sent: Friday, August 23, 2002 2:22 PM Subject: RE: [idm] boc extended universe.../christ

If you can't find "Hi Scores," you may be able to track down the Skampler compilation, which features the title track and "Everything You Do Is a Balloon." These are the two best tracks from "Hi Scores" in my opinion. Skampler was re-released recently. You could email PJ at s://kimo (support@skimo.com) to see if he can get you a copy, or try forcedexposure.com. J On 23 Aug 2002 at 10:00, nat hawks wrote:

I agree that this EP is great, although the last 2 songs are sort of... ennhh... They probably don't have a lot of imitators because their music is actually quite simple. It's all in the craft; you can't just use a plugin or some fancy automation. That's pretty rare in the hobbyist-riddled IDM scene :) derek --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
