One of the most enjoyable listens of recent months has just come my
way:
LAWRENCE (s/t) - Ladomat 2000 (2002)
Nothing much is given away on this album, which could be filed under
the MicroHouse banner (thank you Philip!) We are told that Lawrence
is one Peter M Kersten and apart from that, very little else. The
elaborate fold-out cover art is just abstract photographic washes
without text or anything identifiable.
The 15 tracks themselves are untitled and the disc's label is printed
in illegible silver on white.
What's this man's game, one wonders? We are constantly told of the
faceless anonymity of the electronic artists... and this really
proves the point!
Once over the the doubtless unsatisfied curiosity, get into the
music!! You will not be disappointed if you enjoy the current trend
for 'micro house' - small 4x4 bits and pieces, in some ways not too
unlike some of Herbert's work (from the Around the House period).
You may have come across Lawrence previously on the Ladomat 100
double CD to which he contributed a track titled "Desktop/Snake
Organ" which I'm sure I recognise amongst these 15 untitled tracks.
He also had a track on the Kompakt Total 3 comp.
Definitely recommended if you like the Kompakt / Ladomat sound.
