Hope you are enjoying a cool Summer, we had a great time in Montreal. On August 24th, lucky Quebecois will be able to go see our “cocosolidciti meet BiP_Hop” night. Featuring Andrew Duke, Battery Operated, Mitchell Akiyama, D’Iberville and Ninja Tunes’DJ Luv play at SAT (Societe des Arts Technologiques, usually hosting Mutek or FCMM nights). www.sat.qc.ca Twine, Andrew Duke and The BiP_Hop Generation v.5 are getting more and more positive reviews. Spaceheads and Wang Inc. Albums should be in your favourite stores by now… At the end of July, I was pleased to finally have a chance to witness Spaceheads and Max Eastley play together. For their first show in France, open air at the prestigious MIMI festival, on the Frioul Island off the Marseille coast. It went amazingly well, with some epic ambient music improvised by the trio. Some parts reminded me of Ennio Morricone, circa the 70s, when he sounded menacing and extra-terrestrial… ie. Gli Occhi Freddi Della Paura, for instance. Brilliant ! High time to start thinking of a sequel to their critically-acclaimed “The time of the ancient astronaut”… We are proud to announce the exceptional meeting-again of Max Eastley and David Toop, who will team up in “Reciprocess”. Their first collaboration dates from 1974, on Brian Eno’s label. Second one was in the early 90s. The third one will take place sometimes in 2003… The Spaceheads also played some shows as a duo, and you can see some pix of their 4th appearance at Batofar : http://www.etherreal.com/magazine/photos/ We had announced the release of an album by KPT Michigan which finally won’t see the light of day on the label. Some of you might be disappointed but we are not responsible of Michael’s change of mind. We are sorry since we had already worked on it, promoted his name and enjoyed our meeting… Life goes on, and we are finalising artwork for the following records to appear LATER in the Fall : Angel (Ilpo Vaisanen + Schneider TM) : s/t [bleep 16]______ due out in October Angel is the collaborative project of Dirk Dresselhaus (commonly known as Schneider TM) and Ilpo Väisänen (1/2 of Pan Sonic). Freeform-soul music, made with Ilpo’s selfmade analog-sythesizer (typewriter), cd-player and the most fucked up electric guitar Schneider could find. They improvise live and create a real poundin' mixture of old industrial, minimal, or noisy wall of sound. Tonne : soundtoys < open source [v.1] > [bleep 17]______ due out in October Music by Scanner, Hakan Lidbo, Si-cut.db, Tonne Paul Farrington had developped The original Soundtoys software as a research work at the Royal College of Art in London. He wanted to make his own software with applications in a design environment. The project is designed to allow musicians to diversify their working methods in using the Soundtoy software to generate new work. The audio side has two tracks by each artist created using the software, each very different in manner and explication. The CD contains the original Soundtoys software and sounds that were used in the creation of the tracks, so you have access to all original sounds that were used by the artists. Scanner + Tonne : sound polaroids [bleep 18]______ due out in October Images and sound were recorded in London and this data was then processed using software that converts the pixels of an image into sound, giving the user the ability to paint with sound and compose with light. Such a graphical approach suggested the use of digital images taken across the city as photographic sounds, or 'sound polaroids.' Using a database of the original source material Scanner & Tonne then actively took the show on the road and created live performances following a similar system. Experience their view of London, Milano, Tokyo, Montreal and New-York… BiP_HOp Generation [v.6] [bleep 19]______ due out in November Last volume in the first series of what has now become the classiest collection of contemporary electronica SCANNER (uk) / ILPO VAISANEN (Fi) / ANGEL (De/Fi) / BATTERY OPERATED (Ca) / ALEJANDRA & AERON (US/Es) / BITTONIC (De) Tennis : fur lines (includes a free CD of remixes) [bleep 20/21]______ due out in December Their new and third album + a free second CD packed with remixes of tracks that appeared on “europe on horseback” by Komet, Scanner, Taylor Deupree, Oren Ambarchi, Electronicat, Pimmon, Jetone… and many other starring almost 70 minutes of tennis decompositions… May the force be with you… ip | 0000 \\\\.. \\\\ __ http://www.bip-hop.com _---| 0000 \\\\..\\\\ contemporary electronica challenging the ears and the mind --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
