I mean no offense, but after having recently resubbing after a few years, I can't help but feel that this list has 1) shrunk in membership, or 2) lost any use as a place for learning about new music, or 3) both What happened? Is this just an extended lull, or does this reflect the demise of IDM? -- Amitab Mukerjee blipblop@fastmail.fm “In the midst of this endless variety of opinion, what man, or what body of men, has the right to say, in regard to any particular action, or course of action, ‘We have tried this experiment, and determined every question involved in it? We have determined it, not only for ourselves, but for all others? And, as to all those who are weaker than we, we will coerce them to act in obedience to our conclusion? We will suffer no further experiment or inquiry by any one, and, consequently, no further acquisition of knowledge by anybody?’ Who are the men who have the right to say this? Certainly there are none such. The men who really do say it, are either shameless imposters and tyrants, who would stop the progress of knowledge, and usurp absolute control over the minds and bodies of their fellow-men; and are therefore to be resisted instantly, and to the last extent; or they are themselves too ignorant of their own weaknesses, and of their true relations to other men, to be entitled to any other consideration than sheer pity or contempt." - Lysander Spooner --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I don't share your feelings, personally, but I know where you're coming from. Membership is probably still growing, although more slowly than before I'm sure as some people unsub, like any list, but as far as a place to learn about new music, there's tons on the list. About 50% of the relevant record labels out there post updates and newsletters to the list, detailing new releases and upcoming releases. One of the ways to turn the list more to your liking is to a) stop having meta-discussions (like asking why the list is a certain way, no offense), and b) post reviews and questions to the list. Wanna know about new stuff? ASK! Someone else asked about lunch. What's stopping other people from asking about a new cd? derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- with lather thingy --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
