matthew herbert, hands down, at the planet-e after-party demf2002, he was great, live sampling of the destruction of corporate america's products, it was great and the audience was ready for the performance, more of a performance art piece than a "live show" very entertaining and the sounds weren't 1/2 bad, also, lightningbolt this band is the shit! they set up their gear in the audience, and rocked detroit at the majestic, hope it helps ya, ryan griffin ryan@octanedetroit.com (new media designer) www.octanedetroit.com highly combustable design av3rs1on@aol.com (personal e-mail) graphic design digital animation and video dj sound designer --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

mmmm, i take it we're not talking JUST laptop here, right?... i saw Dillinger Escape Plan for the second time last night. they may be the heaviest monster in the galaxy http://www.dillingerescapeplan.com/ Mogwai may be the best live band i've ever seen though........... Sigur Ros, GodSpeed, Don Caballero, Trans Am, Mum, Built To Spill, Sonic Youth, Alice in Chains (dirt era), Fugazi, NineInchNails (downward spiral era), Smashing Pumpkins (siamese dream era), No Neck Blues band, Electric Wizard, Explosions in the Sky, ... i know we've talked about it a million times, but it is going to take a bit more for electronic music to compete with rock in the live arena... it doesn't necessarily need to be as flashy, but there needs to be that 'live' element... in terms of electronics, i must say that SquarePusher did the most of anyone i've seen... well, and Kid 606.. but, of course, Cex is king.

A beautiful improvisation by Christian Fennesz and Jim O'Rourke in Paris around 1997. I felt immersed in an accumulation of dense layers of sounds. "The Cube" a films, sounds and lights performance. Think of a group of 7 artists standing for 12 hours in a 10 x 10 meters cube. The musicians (Lionel Marchetti, Mathieu Werchowski, Jerome Noetinger from Metamkine … ) produce electro acoustic soundscapes while visual artists project experimental films and lights from mechanical devices. The cube becomes a living entity either harmonious or chaotic. And many others! Lily ;-) PS: I wish I could see Masami Akita (Merzbow) back in the 80's. If someone hear about him playing in the U.S. in the future let me know! ______________________________________________________ Boîte aux lettres - Caramail - http://www.caramail.com

In order. MUKILTEO FAIRIES My friend's living room, Bismarck North Dakota 1994. It was amazing to us that a band would travel from the west coast and play in our living room. I had no idea what to expect and was completely blown away!! Extremely energixed spastic queer-core. Mukilteo Fairies are the BEST PUNK BAND EVER!!! MOUSE ON MARS at the Graceland in Seattle about two years ago. I think this is the first time I ever "danced". Everybody danced!! DEICIDE in Seattle, same venue as above, about a year ago. Relived old memories of "no false metal" and felt the same rush metal used to give me when I was heavily into it. Plus it's funny to watch metal musicians roll their eyes into the back of their heads and make evil faces. on 8/14/02 2:28 PM, lily whoosh at theanarchistlily@caramail.com wrote:

I was waiting for someone to mention Generation X or Billy since I'd have to say 1983 was king for not only his masterful Rebel Yell tour but the don of stage debauchery; Adam Ant (Strip Tour). When you enter the realm of electronics no one can ever unintentionally forget Jack Dangers during the deafening roar of his famed Meat Beat Manifesto 99% tour from 1991 alongside the ever vegan conscious Consolidated and there rigorous visual performance during Friendly Fascism. --- Greg Clow <greg@stainedproductions.com> wrote:

Funny that you should call Adam Ant the "don" of something, 'cause the photo of him in this story about recent court case makes him look like a character from The Godfather: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk/2190656.stm Greg :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Greg Clow ::: greg@stainedproductions.com ::::::::: concert & event promotions ::: http://www.stainedproductions.com :::::: electronic music radio & reviews ::: http://www.feedbackmonitor.com ::: electronic/experimental record label ::: http://www.pieheadrecords.com ::::::::: 158 Close Ave. 2nd Floor ::: Toronto, Ontario M6K 2V5 ::: Canada --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I say Nitzer Ebb on the "Belief" tour - 1989, I think? It was pretty intense - three guys on a nearly bare stage dressed in white t-shirts, black shorts and big stompy combat boots, two of them pounding on electric percussion sets while the one in the middle sang/shouted. "Murderous" live nearly ripped my head off. I saw them a couple of years later on the "Ebbhead" tour, and they sucked ass. How could i have forgotten about Panasonic!! I saw them open for MOGWAI here in Seattle. I went to the show having never heard Pan Sonic before and actually only went to see Mogwai. I was completely blown away!!! My body had never been exposed to such frequencies at such high volumes. The closest I've ever come to experiencing "The Brown Sound". Their set instintly turned me onto techno and like music. It changed my life!! My 5 favourites: Kraftwerk @Tribal Gathering Mantronix@Town and Country Club mid 80s Bentley Rhythm Ace@Reading Festival mid 90s (Sunday night performance) Richie Hawtin@SONAR 2 years back (Saturday night performance) DJing I know but when Richie DJs it is a performance... Aphex Twin@some festival (in the afternoon with the dancing bears and the playhouse) This year's favourite would have to be Sigur Ros, big beardy opera singer and Orchestra at Royal Festival Hall though I am looking forward to the Jedi Knights on Saturday (though I think they are DJing)... probably the best shows i've seen are: dead can dance 1996 spiritchaser tour (lakewood OH) this was their last tour, and the only one i was able to see. they were amazing. i wasn't too into that last album at the time but they blew me away with both old and new work, plus a lot of new stuff that was never released. I would love to have a live recording of this tour. thankfully "bylar" was released on the boxed set. i'm a sucker for their stuff anyway though ;-) dumb type 2002 "memorandum" (chicago MCA) probably the best performance i've seen, in terms of multidisciplinary shows. amazing sound (ryoji ikeda), video, dance, etc.... DEFINITELY check this out if you have the chance sometime. after having seen this show i would travel long distances to see them perform something new. m.mercer :: design + sound design: http://www.matthewmercer.com/ sound: http://www.mattmercer.com/ _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
