I did. Well, at least I joined to better appreciate
the mindset of people with similar tastes.
Here in the basement, I don't have many friends. Just
my com.a cd.
Seriously though, about 95% of the "off topic"
discussion is in some way related to idm or idm
artists. Perhaps it is a bit heavy on the non-idm
side, but usually I can find some relation. Observing
the deterioration of a once meaningful string into
"off-topic" jargon is actually good way to place
idm/electronic music in the context of a larger world.
The bottom line is that I delete most of my mail
anyway. It isn't a struggle. A good bit of these
seemingly off-topic posts are of interest to at least
a few people and not minded by many others. Perhaps
the ease by which massive amounts of e-mail can be
deleted is indicative of a technological era that
allows the user to ultimately personalize his
interests. There can't be a mailing list for "the
moral politics of prefuse73 music found in corporate
america", so perhaps the current thread best resides
here, long winded and "fuck fuckidy fuck fuck" as it
may be.
It seems to be a small price to pay, having to dodge
less than 100% pure idm topics in order to allow each
user the benefits mentioned.
respectfully,
ov
