I've seen autechre a couple of times, without visual aids. I think they
prefer that. I think they like pitting the audience in the middle of their
sound, because the sound is the visual at a show where the music is that
big, where the music is the place, where the music is what they want you to
see. While I would watch and appreciate their visuals, and I am sure they
would come up with something cool if they decided to, I think there is
something about a lack of visual that they are trying to do, and that makes
perfect sense. Like to stick you in your head and let your own visuals
conjure themselves inspired by those mad vibrations.

Seems like the obvious choices for Autechre would be either nato for
max/msp, or pd/gem. I've not used nato, but I'm fairly sure there are
OpenGL modules for it, which would facilitate hardware accelerated live 3d
graphics.
I presume a considerable amount of render time went into the ganz graf
video, so it would be unrealistic to expect the same results in a live
situation. Should be able to get some interesting results that compliment
their music nicely though.
I've never been lucky enough to see Ae live. What sort of visual show (if
any) can be expected from one of their gigs?
ps. Nice to meet you all... I've been lurking for a few weeks now... Now
