in regards to this, it's important to remember that it's not every musicians goal to create something original. this is certainly the case in the 'rock' world where we find arrowsmith cover bands. these people simply want to rock, nothing more. luckily we have genres like idm that is partially defined by it's (hopefully) never ending desire to reinvent/interpret itself (at least this is part of my idealist definition). it may seem like obvious shit, but i think it's sort of interesting... now when i see a boring, cliche band i think to myself that their motivations are simply different than my own (why should i expect them to be playing what i want to hear, maybe their playing what they want to play exactly as they intended, but it just sounds like shit to me and my preferences). they aren't necessarily failing at creating something new, they never cared to in the first place. disecting musician's perceived motivations through their musicality is interesting. you can hear the compromises in specifics sometimes... _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
