Hi, Well I'm off to Barthelona in 2 weeks and am still trying to decide weather to try and catch anything of the last day of Sonar. I have no idea what is playing on the saturday - all I know is that the warp showcase is on the previous thursday, which I will miss. Can anyone who has been to sonar before persuade me to interrupt a romantic weekend and go along? Any ideas what will be on Saturday night? hi i've seen the final program is been updated on the sonar web site it's gonna be quite early on the morning (at noon, to be exact) but this new barcelona label named spa.rk is going to have a sonar lab with mitchell akiyama (intr_version / spa.rk; canada) playing live and co-runner of label, Fibla, dijing some spa.rk stuff. could be great! on the other hand, last nite of sonar use to be the more mainstream and dance floor oriented! so... sure expect jeff mills there cheers ricard

was just thinking the same! and man, I was there!!! (i mean seating in my place and not attending PHISICALLY sonar at all) i can't stand all that people who was just for the beers, the party and all that stuff.... so you there on long island miss all that part and have just the music.... i understand most all the people saying it'cool to have all this events all together at sonar, but if you'd have to deal with all the kind of people moving around these days in barcelona, you'll understand what i'm saying..... anyway cheers from barcelona ric --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Any tips?
Just so you know, the nighttime Sonar has many, many performers, on three simultaneous stages, so Sanchez isn't your only choice by far. in fact, this year's friday night gig also features lamb, soul designer, soul center, john tejada, and i'm sure quite a few more. There are also generally a slew of off-site parties like last year's WMF gig, etc., which will be flyered heavily all around BCN the week of the festival, so there's absolutely no lack of choices. Many people attend off-site parties until 2 or 3 and then head over to Sonar Noche for the peak hour festivities. cheers Phil --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I thought Cex was pretty entertaining (which, I guess, is the point), and in the same vein Gold Chains kicked ass. The software presentations were good, especially Claytons presentation of jitter and the Golan Levin show. Dntel was a highligt too, very nice show despite the hall. But yeah, I wish they could move sonar night back to barceloneta (the beach), those big ugly halls and the awful acustics killed a lot of the shows. Krush, Anti-pop and Lamb survived though. -Stefan : ruaridh : wrote:

i was a sonar virgin; part of me wished the crowd stayed the size of the first day where you could actually spot people & get a tan. crowds cant be a low at a festival, so i guess i was pretty HIGH most of the time... getting there a day early & seeing lots of people i never saw again. but got to meet a few bods in the real world... like where did andy weatherall end up djing? 1st day was wicked, ran from cinematic orchestra to tuxedomoon. enjoyed mum & dad & a few other things in that tent... spent a while upstairs with the exhibitors & met mucho muchacho who'd been recording with dj vadim. gave us a couple of dope 12"s, plus this compilation of mainly us, & some spanish rappers called pachecho...krush was awesome, but a scenario with a couple of taxi drivers (& i speak spanish) put me off going back to sonar @ night... although the sound worked for krush because his set worked with the echoes as sound, the rest of that place was awful... they had the music @ the beach b4? move it back... best moment of all was being spotted in a record shop by the flipside crew who i dj'd with a year earlier & then being clocked by a college radio dj from new orleans... it outerwebbed me. caught some well inneresting stuff in the evenings of both days, but the best part for me was getting into the real world for a few days & diggin how many record shops were in barcelona if you got to em before they closed at 1pm! things outside of sonar were interesting as well.... the slew of record shops you could fall on if you managed to get out the door between 10am and 1pm. the pure arabic cd store & a few hidden gems i'm not telling anyone about unless you fancy a slew of dirt cheap 80's pop. there was an experimental music festival going on @ the joan miro musuem & the wrongfestival, on sunday professor angel dust called up & said "come round our restaurant and eat exotic flowers listening to exotic music". why not? most creative use of a warehouse space i'd seen all week: the chilled OVEN was way over in Poble Nou the music was wicked, the food the most amazing i've ever eaten anywhere... so many places to lounge for a drink, and then out came these amazing persian dancers from usbekistan... every sunday, angel dusts girlfriend is trying to bring some eclectica different kinda dance on the stage so that & the projected images makes a great wind down, although its open thurs thru sunday & during the week/ends they pull back the tables & dance. a lotta locals near the macba were complaining after sonar, was in a shop when someone came in with a petition to have the event moved from the hood. oh dear, guess we stopped a few people having siestas, then... woops!

The thing i enjoyed the most was certainly J?hann J?hannsson & Kira Kira playing Kitchen Motors at SonarLab ! Alek Stark & The Replicant was very nice too, and SonarMatica on Helsinki was brilliant ! (if you missed it: www.katastro.fi ) Overall, I mainly enjoy SonarDay, i'm considering not going to SonarNight next year. and yes, it was *insanely* crowded (88'000), they should consider selling less tickets, or raising their prices... _________________________________________________________________ Join the world?s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

hey, fibla was absolutely amazing and i liked a lot a new band on spark and that swedish guy, ola bergman. i missed vessel but heard was great too i just can agree about spak releases but have no clue about next ones..... i saw they had a vynil that was sold in the event: phluidbox 12. gonna get it in a few days and that thinks of shops closed!!! men, it's not siesta time like i read some msg around, it's just lunch time! give us a break: we close from 1:30 (maybe 2) till 4-4:30. so... when you come to spain, just gotta delay a little beat your lunch time and adjust to our rhythm :-)

but where do you go to eat your lunch as most of the good restaurants are closed as well? :-) i also highly recommend adopting in spending siesta by chilling out somewhere instead of shopping in the hottest hours of day. i was learning to use my very first (d)slr camera in sonar and here are some photos i took in events. sorry for the high compession and small resolution, trying to save bandwidth and minimize your dl time. high-res images available on request. http://www.damicon.fi/~joha/photo/sonar2002/ -- Johannes Gronvall - Damicon Kraa - joha@damicon.fi - PGPonRqst --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

when i went to barcelona with a freind who had a release on spa.rk ( .aka ben hatchelt ) we got kinda lost in some huge park so didn't have time to return later in the day (he was playing that night as well) the shops had a real nice selection though. i really dig the first phluidbox release and am looking forward to the new 12", if you can you should check out fibla album 'landscopes' and the 7" he did on expanding records, hes had a few songs on some comps as well (worm interface / quatermass) which are worth cheking out. its nice to see how spark have grown since they started and they do have some real quality artists. think i'll have ot make sure i do sonar next year, especialy so i can pick up a spark t-shirt :/ ----- Original Message ----- From: "ricard perelló" <ricardpe@wanadoo.es> To: "inky" <inkyinkz@yahoo.co.uk>; <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, June 21, 2002 3:26 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Sonar

wobbly just absolutely crushed as did /rupture (you go jace!). i couldn't help think that rjyan-cex was playing in the wrong room to the wrong crowd at the wrong time. a shame really. although the sheer sonic fuh of the wobbly/rupture tag team will pretty much make anything following it a disgrace. my picks were (mind you i only took in thusday and friday day sessions (did ANYONE go to the night sessions this year?)): HIGHS pretty much everything that happened in the sonarcomplex both thursday and friday (gttcttatetc..., yasunao tone, janek schaefer, oren ambarchi, xian marclay, etc...). what i always wished sonar would be like... good sound, patient attentive crowd, nice video feeds of handiwork, comfy room, alcoves. klang-kunst being treated like any proper concert... the orthlong musork showcase. AGF was very nice, very chill. full swing dj sets, chris-timeblind's chilled set... everything i caught at the wrong festival (sutekh, mikael stavostrand, tons of amazing interactive software demos/performances...) not excluding the wrong festival itself. the arsonal & foehn/staubgold booths at the sonar-market. the finnish contemporary art exhibit, esp. the tommi gronlund ultrasonic installation. the gaudi exhibition, esp. the environment with the bird-calls. the museum book store. drinking beer on the beach. the best ice cream i have ever tasted. those pet stands on the rambla. pita after dropping acid with yasunao tone... martin ng: superguy. ladies. LOWS peaches & panasonic. caught the first 10 minutes. the crowd on the right side being held out to avoid a fire-code fiasco actually bum-rushed the security guards holding them back. as if to let their fashions go undictated for that much longer, the horror. panasonic provided a nice opening sweep, which was cut off my peacheses' beat-dat. at which point panasonic just SHUT DOWN. time to leave... lali puna outdoors amidst drunken schmoozing trance-label owners hawking their fluorescent-sleeved ecstasy anthem on 30cm. anywhere else would have been more appropriate. they sounded good if you pressed your head against the speakers. missing the designer's republic exhibition. acts getting 'forced' by sonar NOT to play auxilliarry gigs @ the wrong festival. corporate bullshit really... greg davis' technical problems @ the wrong festival. playing for 15 minutes at the wrong festival. those statue-folks in the rambla yelling at you for taking photos of them without giving them money. sunburn. mullets. really the best thing about sonar was getting to spend time with a bunch of people from all goddamm over the place being rewarded for making far-out sounds. even if sonar is sponsored by coke, nike, AND sony next year i won't care as long as this doesn't change.

Yeah, that sucked. We went to The Wrong Festival to catch your set, and while the other performers were fun, it was a bummer to have your performance being cut off after only 15 minutes... Did anyone go to Club Sonar on Friday in London? I didn't, and I'm naffed off coz I believe Sqrpsr played "live" avec bass. Pah, considering last time I saw him he was bleedin' awful. Only in London would the Evening Standard (big commuters evening newspaper) rate Squarepusher / Ladytron as the "Best Pop Gig" of the weekend. I kid you not. Xela album is good, for all those who've not heard it. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

sure...all in all my first time at sonar and i really loved it, especially the day programme. great city - great vibe my favourites: + Henrik Rylander + Maja Ratke (yum yum....nice calfs too ;) + Barcelona Symphonic orchestra with Fennesz, Pan Sonic & R. Sakamoto + Alva Noto (absolutely stunning) + Pan Sonic (although i only catched about 15 min. of it) + Apparat + Kid Koala (wicked skills) + Kompakt vs. Bpitch control party (outside sonar) + "pakistani beer mafia" at the streets of barcelona (kinda) disappointing: - 2 Many DJs ( i thought they were lame compared to the bootleg mixes) - Madlib + Jay-Rocc (yada yada....boring call-and-response...i'd rather seen Madlib behind the desks than MCing) - the rain that disturbed Max Tundra's and Four Tet's gigs missed/skipped: * Hawtin vs. Villalobos (because of the kompakt party) * To Rococo Rot (cancelled because of rain...somebody should tell that at glastonbury) * Dabrye * Deathprod * Massive Attack (due to massive (haha) queuing) pictures are about to follow -Eikman ----- Original Message ----- From: "Aaron D Meyers" <adm226@nyu.edu> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Monday, June 21, 2004 7:54 PM Subject: [idm] Sonar
