Well, the two "ozrish" tracks are okay really, but there's
something on the album that sucks really badly. I'm still
amazed how Gary got brainwashed after his world journey and sessions
with that guru in LA - all these citars, make love not war, i love
the world and other hippy stuff. We all have seen it happened before,
with The Beatles and George Harrison, and we all know where it leads to.
As for the music - there's _too_ much of direct quoting from Beatles
and Floyd. The new sound is maybe new for FSOL, but not for the rest
of the world, i guess. It's a good record to listen to, but just not
as good as any of their earlier releases (even Translations is waaay
better, in my opinion). I quite like Elysia, Mello Hippo Disco Show,
Osho (wait, it is actually edit of The Lovers from Translations!),
Go Tell It To The Trees Egghead and (strangely enough) Goodbye Sky
(Reprise), but the rest of the album is... hmm... boring and sometimes
even a little embarrassing ;)
If only we could get rid off all those banjos, citars, claps,
half of the vocals on other tracks and maybe throw some more good beats in
- it would be a perfect comeback for FSOL, but.... I guess I'll have to
wait until Gary's current obsessions are gone ;)
