i saw this show in chicago. it was a strangely paced event.... started
sometime around 10 (i got there a bit after agf started). agf's set was very
true to her CD on orthlorng musork (probably going to be on my top 10 for
the year come december).... glitchy, ambient, noisy and textural all at
once.
vladislav overlapped with her set a bit, and then he went solo for about an
hour or so, probably longer. it was directly in the vein of "anima", and i
was hoping that it would be more like "naima" considering the presence of
agf... in any case, anyone who likes "anima" a lot will enjoy his tour/set.
personally i got a bit bored, i think as a result of hardly any crowd at all
(less than 50 people) and the rather sprawling array of effects that
completely washed out the source sound... think "multila"'s effects on
overdrive, put to the soundtrack of "anima.".....
now i realize "delay" is in his name, but the effects were just a little too
over the top for me... music that was perfectly good on its own was
perpetually washed out. when agf came back on stage and began singing over
some downtempo house (like luomo played at the wrong (slow) speed), i wanted
to hear her great voice without 10 effects on it.... in any case it was
pretty good hearing them together and i look forward to a studio album
collaboration (anyone know if this is happening soon?).
as for the luomo material, honestly i didn't stick around for much of it.
i'm not a huge fan of the luomo disc, the only v.delay project i never got
very into. the music sounded really good on the PA though, i was just tired
and not really "feelin it".... so i headed home. agf was easily the
highlight of the evening... and i think in the end i would have rather seen
more of her solo, or rather seen her as part of Laub than the agf/dly set.
also caught the rephlex tour this weekend which was pretty good.....
although cylob's DJ set seemed to be extremely long...
