quoted 5 lines I just listened to _The Action Packed Mentallist Brings You The Fucking>I just listened to _The Action Packed Mentallist Brings You The Fucking >Jams_ cd by Kid606. So basically this is just a an unauthorized mix-cd with >new Kid606 music played over it, right? >It's pretty awful. What's the hype all about again, and why couldn't this >have been done legitimately for one of those "DJ-Kicks" type series?
First off, I've never heard a DJ-Kicks album that was even close to this style...Action packed Mentallist resembles quality old school breakbeat along with plenty of glitchy, noisy, and wild bits to it. I don't even see how you brought "DJ-kicks" into this... Secondly, does anybody understand Kid606's modus operandi?? Apparently a lot of you don't...The kid is pure satire with variety. I personally have always LOVED anything that murdered pop tunes, waaay prior to kid606 releasing mass music. Sometimes a good bit of you geeks act like everything should sound like fucking Aphex or Autechre; but then if somebody releases some shit like that, you disrespect them for biting their style. What's the hype over the Kid about? Well, can anyone tell me ANYTHING that sounds similar how to this particular album was put together? Sure, there's been plenty of pop remixes; but nothing close to this. It's a pure medley of over 8 genres...If you don't like someone mashing-up samples; don't listen to it. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Its not like experimental electronic music is forced upon you...Hell, does anybody on the list know of a radio station that even plays solely experimental elec. music? I sure don't. That doesn't matter though, with stuff like this, and many others available; the fun doesn't stop. Kid606's music is all in good fun & intentionally attempt to provoke strong reactions: both good & bad. The bottom line is; listen to what you like, post to the list well-written reviews of what you like, but don't waste bandwidth & time over blind criticism. This is a good mailing list; but the purpose of a mailing-list is to inform & discuss information. If someone posted such a flame post over "Drukqs" there would be a thread so long I'd get a couple digests with that alone...If you are overly critical of anything, at least try & dissect, review, & give suggestions about how the artist can improve... Respect. Lion of the 23rd enigma. "Perhaps all pleasure is only relief. "

First try Bit Meddler, Rude Ass Tinkerer, then 100% of UK Bootleg craze. Not to mention V/vm, and Speedranch and Jansky Noise. Oh, I forgot People Like Us and Negativeland and about 40 other appropriation artists like Wobbly, and Evolution Controll Committe. Oh, yeah, then there's the origionator of it all, John Oswald. Just because you think it's "new" doesn't nesiccarily mean it is.

WFMU 91.1 www.WFMU.org freeform radio for over twenty years. there are plenty of others, tons of college stations, I know there are some good ones on the west coast...

He's a smart cookie that can be said. I also think it's a pretty good album. Some people just aren't as infatuated by heariong the same songs cut up over and over again (Missy?? please give it a rest!). I am afraid that this will trigger a hundred more remixes of the same material...

Yeah. I try not to be a "hater" and I also try not to get too emotional when defending something. Go get the Plunderphonics box set and you'll see how it's REALLY done. Thanks, I'll try to check these folks out. Haven't heard many of those artists, but I'll check them out. UK bootlegs are 90% electronic pop, from at least what I've heard of them...tell me specifics. The other 10% is older hip-hop D&B remixes, which I usually enjoy. Do you know of any URLs with online samples?

Never said I thought it was new. Matter of fact I mentioned how it reminded me of early 90's Uk hardcore/Chicago megamixes... I don't think that the Kid tries to be completely original by a longshot...I feel he's makes tracks in this particular generational context. He's about my age & you can tell...Who has put together new wave, hip-hop, booty bass, hardcore, & jungle alltogether in the same track, with IDM sensibilities? I'd be willing to bet he's the only one; but if you know of any other exact tracks like that, give me the ID.

I wouldn't call this "solely experimental electronic music" by a long shot...It's eclectic & decent music though.

Well, sorry, I don't have money showered upon me like some of you apparently do...I'd certainly like to hear some of these artists you mentioned though. Easy, Lion of the 23rd enigma.
