The tune on his Fat Cat split 12", Female Pig Herder, is wonderful because it eschews all attempts at his usual tongue-in-cheek humor. That tune is all serious and crunchy and dark and I love it. I've got the HelpAphexTwin record and I like that well enough, but I'm wondering if he ever stays serious for an entire album. I've also got the Speedranch Janskynoise "Welcome to Execrate" cd which I also like a lot, but that one contains mostly remixes of other people's stuff. Does he have any other releases where he avoids the slapstick routine?

Check out the Invalid Object series on Fallt which they did - their contribution was called 'IF'. No 'novelty' remixes, just pure v/vm. The tracks are all only 1 minute long though, (which is probably a blessing to some :-) ) You used to be able to download the tracks from Fallt but I can't find them at the moment. Maybe you can steal then of SoulSeek or the like and I'm sure they won't mind as Fallt is a free label anyway. http://www.fallt.com/artists/vvm.html http://www.fallt.com/invalidObject/if/index.html They also have some other original recordings, I'll try to dig out the titles for you. They're not available anymore to download, only on CD: " The invalidObject Series was established in 2000 as a sublabel of Fällt to release a finite series of twenty four 3"CD/.mp3 works. Offering a unique perspective on a diverse range of musical output at the turn of the millennium, the Series features work by some of the most respected artists operating within the field of '.microsound' and has been described as "a remarkable document of a vibrant artistic community and a critical moment in the evolution of digital music" (Philip Sherburne), "a showcase for the extraordinary range of practical approaches within contemporary electronic music" (Matt Ffytche, The Wire) and, simply, "impressive" (Rob Young, Editor, The Wire). The Series was also included in The Wire's '2001 Rewind' list. To coincide with the Series launch in .mp3 format at ExtraSensory 3 <http://www.fallt.com/invalidObject/extrasensory.html> the entire Series was made available for free download throughout October and November 2000 during which in excess of 60,000 downloads were made. Following the release of the 3" CDs, the entire Series was again available to download in high bitrate .mp3 format throughout September and October 2001 during which over a quarter of a million downloads were made. Although the entire Series is no longer available to download there are still limited CDs available to order. " Glenn Glenn McClements wrote:

He's done more individualistic stuff on his own label as well. Should be listed on his website. But I think it's wrong to dismiss his processed stuff as un-serious. He's invested way too much of himself in it to be merely a joke. Also you should check out "Love Songs" and some of the less known recordings such as "the Caretaker" record. It's a concept album dedicated to ghosts form the 20's and related to the movie "The Shinning". Really good stuff!! Donna S

the new The Caretaker record, "a stairway to the stars", is the bomb! ballroom music from the 30's & 40's cut up and processed to an echoey ambient result. hs -- _____________________________ fossil fuel for fossil people --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I agree, which is why I put the word novetly in quotes. They have a lot of great stuff out there, but it's not to everyone's taste. Oh and btw, there are two people in V/VM. One of them records individually as Jansky Noise though. Glenn donna summer wrote:

I could be wrong, but I believe that there was a falling out between James Kirby and Jansky Noise quite a while ago, which resulted in V/Vm (both artist and label) becoming Kirby's solo project. Indeed the Caretaker record is very interesting, also the new V/vm is worth a try. Which one is most appreciated on the list the blue or brown one? Cheers, Tom PS reviews from both on the L’entrepot site: Unconventional music site @: http://users.skynet.be/entrepot
