I think if the music was still pushing forward there
would be more interest regardless of the style
(subgenre)
< But as somebody who goes out every week to d+b clubs
(in the us), and spins it, i can say there is still
very good D&B coming out. >
Sure there is stuff that's listenable, but the older
records were better. Compare Dom & Roland's newest
material to an older single like "The Storm". His
older stuff is great, his newest stuff is totally
boring. I just don't think anyone is inspired in that
scene. That's probably why a lot of the producers
have moved on to broken beat or 2 Step or in Photek's
case back to his roots of techno/house.
Look at Dillinja he's been rehashing all of his own
tunes for a while. I quit buying his records because
they just sounded like reworks of previous singles.
Same with a lot of Digital (although I haven't heard
Dubzilla yet).
No one makes "Timeless" tunes anymore, they are just
disposable tunes.
< But its a matter of taste in the end. Alot of
flavors have died and been replaced with other mutated
forms taking strains from other forms of music and
even other forms of breakbeat (al-la the "rave" sound
revival). >
The whole 92 techno turned dnb was a sickening period.
The Rnb dnb era sucked in my opinion. What's the
flavour right now?
< Personally i think in the past year and a half D&B
has been better than it was in the two years before
that, but at any time, there's going to be a crop of
good tunes, and alot of rip-off or boring tunes... >
Where are the good tunes? I haven't heard anything
particularly interesting. I like Polar (bored of his
beats...but nice melodies).
< for stuff that might appeal to the idm list kids -
artists - Klute, Polar, K, Teebee, John Tejada, Kemal,
Stakka, Juju labels - Certificate 18, Subtitles,
Phuturo, Socio, Commercial Suicide>
Klute's usually pretty good, but he's starting to put
out some cheesy trance-influence dnb. The best tune
he's put out imho is "Splendor" which is the B-side on
his Metalheadz release. And of course his last album
was really nice, but that was a while ago. I don't
know that i would recommend some of his newest
singles.
I'm looking forward to Polar's next release "Out Of
The Blue" because it's suppose to be more of a
downtempo release.
Kemal. & juju..pass
Teebee buy his older releases, pass on the newer
stuff.
I can't comment on some of the other listed because I
don't want to offend them, because they are friends.

Infrared has really gone to crap! J Majik use to be
one my favorites, now he sounds like everyone else.
Marcus Intalex all you need is two singles and I think
you can pass on everything else. "How You Make Me
Feel/Neptune" on 31 Records, and "Universe / Loose
Control" on Metalheadz.
Pieter K's album will be great! Metaformal is on a
great start as a label! Expect good stuff from Pieter
K. He's definitely about making good music, not just
dancefloor fodder.
< even alot of the stuff by the bigger producers has
more diverse beats and flavors, digital, total
science, john b, cause 4 concern.>
John B use to be interesting, his more recent releases
have been nauseating. Extremely cheesy
Total Science...rehashing
Cause 4 Concern has actually done some ok stuff. I
was surprised they sampled Carl Craig on one of their
more recent singles. Didn't feel it was a necessary
purchase.
< I wouldn't say D&B is nearly as vital as it was in
the past, but there's still some good stuff coming
out. >
It seems like dnb's audience wants the heavy metal
tunes. Which is fine by me if it's innovative (and
it's not), but then again alot of the kiddies don't
know the difference because they don't have the
history so you can pretty much play anything
regardless of quality...just as long as it's hard &
dark. Now there are mosh pits at dnb events. I'm
waiting for the djs to start biting the heads off bats
or painting their faces up like King Diamond/ICP
