Piehead Records Newsletter for May 13th, 2002
::::::::::::::::
The third and fourth volumes in the Piehead Records 2002 limited edition
series were officially released this past Saturday, although there has been
a minor manufacturing delay, so subscriber copies will be sent out later
this week.
This newsletter features info about both releases, as well as a look back
at our previous offerings and other updates.

PIE004 : I8U : _grasshopper morphine_
I8U is an enigmatic sound artist from Montreal who pairs minimal microtones
and rhythmic pulses into works that should appeal strongly to fans and
followers of Ryoji Ikeda, Francisco López and Carsten Nicolai. She has
released material both independently and via labels such as Staalplaat, and
she performs and collaborates regularly with Martin Tétreault, David
Kristian and photographer Guylaine Bédard. An pre-release review of
_grasshopper morphine_ written by François Couture of the All Music Guide
describes the album as "her most accomplished, compelling effort", and
notes that "it literally opens up when scrutinized... high playback volume
is essential to experience it fully".

PIE003 : David Kristian : _My Three Suns_
David Kristian has been making electronic music since 1983, when he first
started composing soundtracks and designing sound effects for the various
short films and videos he was making. Over the years he has released
material on a wide variety of labels including Alien8 Recordings,
Schematic, Drop Beat, Lo Recordings, Leaf, Worm Interface, Ninja Tune, and
Law & Auder. _My Three Suns_ features material recorded over the past three
years and marks a return of sorts to more beat/IDM oriented material,
featuring 13 tracks in a style somewhere between _Beneath the Valley of the
Modulars_ and _Sawdust Sinedust Squaredust_.

PIE002 : hellothisisalex : _the canadian spelling program_
Reviews have started coming in for our April release by Toronto duo
hellothisisalex. Here are some excerpts:
'Cute little pop melodies that would fit along the robotic lines of
anything on Suction Records or most of the music put forward by Morr Music.
There isn't a particular stand out track here, they all have the same good
quality. Very well done.'
[Frans de Waard - Vital Weekly]
'Happy music with charming, naive melodies and mostly uptempo rhythms. It's
music that wouldn't feel out of place on Morr Music or even Rephlex.... a
very cool record to enjoy when the mood is light and the sun is shining.'
[Richard di Santo - Incursion Music Review]

PIE001 : ARC/Aidan Baker : _Repercussion_
We're still getting some great feedback regarding our first release, as
these review excerpts show:
'It reminded me of some of the best Eno releases (Another Green World and
Music for Airports come to mind).'
[David Kristian]
'Fantastic... Lots of detail here, definately good for those of us who like
to not only engage in active listening, but find new things arising each
time the CD spins.'
[ITDE Radio Show - WDBX 91.1 FM, Carbondale, IL]
'ARC's most accomplished and focused effort... One would be hard pressed to
come across a band that is more adept at soundtracking the theatre of the
mind.'
[I. Khider - Exclaim]
'Melodic and sometimes touching, Repercussion is a very well done album
that benefits from impressive production and recording. Flawless and
varied... a good disc to create a slightly exotic and rich ambience.'
[Nicolas Chevreux - Recycle Your Ears]
