check out Filler on sunday night for good microhouse/minimal techno type stuff: http://www.3particles.com/filler/ and here's something i read on pitchforkmedia.com you might be interested in checking out: Electronica Advances on Nation's Capitol John Ashcroft keeps terror alert at guarded, boosts IDM alert to code red Catherine Lewis reports: Chuck Bettis -- a member of the All-Scars and the founder of Mass Particles -- is bringing another three experimental electronic shows to Washington, D.C. this month. The series kicks off tonight (May 2nd) at the Black Cat. Haco, a woman from Japan known for her work with Hoahio (Tzadik) and After Dinner (Recommended Records) among other projects, is headlining; Cerberus Shoal (Temporary Residence) and Trance and the Arcade (Bettis's laptop project with gorgeous visuals provided by Jorge Castro) are also on the bill. On May 15th, Mass Particles presents "Cinematique" at the DC Arts Center with EBSK and two laptop audio and visual artists: Nice Disc (from NY) and Telia (from Baltimore). EBSK is the project of Eric Bruns and former Eggs drummer John Rickman (and yes, my fellow Pitchfork newsman) featuring clarinet and SK keyboards. And finally, May 26th at DCAC is "Audio Environments" with Mikroknytes and Memorize the Sky. Mikroknytes are a duo of drony electronics with violin, while Memorize the Sky are an electronic-acoustic quartet from New York featuring Zachary Wallace of Flashpapr. To summarize, mark your calendars for: 05-02 Black Cat - Cerberus Shoal, Haco, Trance and the Arcade 05-15 DCAC - Nice Disc, Telia, EBSK 05-26 DCAC - Mikroknytes, Memorize the Sky .: Mass Particles: <http://www.massparticles.com> .: Haco: <http://www.japanimprov.com/haco> .: Cerberus Shoal: <http:// www.cerberusshoal.com> .: EBSK: <http://ebsk.alkem.org> .: Nice Disc: <http://f-matic.net> .: Mikroknytes: <http://www.mikroknytes.com> not idm, but if you like deep house at all, my friends throw a weekly event in alexandria called lemur lounge. very chill lounge atmosphere with none of the snootiness that you find at alot of DC clubs: http://www.lemurgene.com/lounge/ i have yet to find a good record shop in DC for idm. but, i mailorder everything from pj, so maybe i'm not looking hard enough. does anyone in DC actually buy records in a store? hope that helps. - d ----- Original Message ----- From: Jezz Bluebear <bluebear.mail-list@dsl.pipex.com> To: Mailing List Idm <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, May 10, 2002 4:47 PM Subject: [idm] IDM in Washington DC

Funny, I'm actually DJ at Filler this sunday. And my freind Jason helps run Lemur lounge. Who are you d? Here's the line up for filler this week. OVER ONE YEAR OF FILLER / SUNDAYS BEATS . BLEEPS . TONES . DRONES . SPOTS . DOTS . PIXELS . POPS "Filler...the most cutting edge stuff you'll hear in town" - WASHINGTON POST MAY 12, 2002 (a night of guests with the same first name) thank you to everyone who came out to the ONE YEAR FILLER PARTY last sunday... it was crazy fun... thanks for packing the house! and thanks to all of wonderful guest djs and bartenders steve and rich for the past great year! LIVEPERFORMANCE . HUMAN COMPANION ( SF ) http://www.textilesounds.com @ 10:00pm Human Companion is Matthew Dingee, contributor to the sound and visual scenes of San Francisco and Washington, DC. A former resident of DC and long time member of DC post-rock outfit lorelei, Matthew continues to experiment with sound, silence and structure. In the mid 90s Matthew produced two happenings at the Black Cat. The happenings were a collection of dadaist pieces featuring everything from smashing plates and exploding dry ice bombs to improvisational noise. In 2001 Matthew and LU bandmate Dan Searing ran over a turtable with a painted car wheel (referencing Rauschenberg and Cage's "Automobile Tire Print") as part of their 4 turntable attack performance. His last visit brought a performance at Signal66 that combined five video clips with tracks generated live. A resident DJ at SF's RoHan Lounge, Human Companion regularly delivers a 3 hour set off of a PowerBook utilizing a jigsaw puzzle of loops and creating a mix of minimal techno and dub as well as dropping in original tracks with an emphasis on the space surrounding the cultivated sounds. Matthew is in DC recording a follow up to the debut LU release on PulCec. + GUESTDJ . MATT JACKSON http://www.conceptionrecordings.com in his own words.... "I'm 25. I'm from the DC area. Got interested in electronic music going to Buzz when I was 16. Started a radio program in high school. In college had an electronic music show and TV show that played classic 'intellegent dance music' and had live visuals. That's when I started making music. Right out of college I went to Sweden to work for Dot records in Gothenburg. I honed in my music making skills with Hab, Quant, and Lee Noris (Metamatics). I started a small record company Conception Recordings. . I plan to release my first record later this year. Currently I dj noon mon-wed on http://radio.enoughrecords.com ." + THEMEVISUALS .
