Grindside? Wot's that? (segueway taken) Grindcore! Now that's more like it. Who on this list likes grindcore? My favorite has to be Dystopia. They're THE MOST brutal negi-core band I've ever heard. The guy who plays drums is a genius. I must insist that any grindcore peeps out there check out the song 'population birth control'. Also like Doom, Dropdead, Phobia, Cattle Decapitation and the insanely fast space core band The Locust. I know this is totally off topic. But it seems to me that most of you IDM heads have to listen to other stuff. I like Khanate and Sun0)))) quite a bit, but I'd still say that the best metal album in years is the last Emperor. I posted about it a while back, so I'll forego the excessive yammering. Atomsmasher packs a mightly kick ass as well, if your into computers and metal simultaniously, that is.

Yes! Logical Nonsense is badass!!! And all of the more recent Grimple stuff is definitely choice. I like all the old Grimple stuff too. And Doom is probably the best blastbeat grind bands ever. Police Bastard! I got a huge Doom backpatch on an old blazer that I think I'm gonna wear to the Venetian Snares show at the Smell come to think of it. Heh, so if any of youse is there and see me, be like hey. I just finished reading the Black metal book, 'Lords of Chaos' for the third time. An extremely good book about the whole Norwegian black metal thing. Those guys are crazy. Not too into the whole neo-nazi / Odin worship thing they had going. But an interesting read. And, what exactly is thrash? I've heard a few different definitions. Like, bandana thrash? Old Suicidal Tendencies and What Happens Next? And all that. Jason P.S. No one mentioned Discharge! Why why why but why!!!!!!!!! -----Original Message----- From: thomas shrubsole [mailto:ageispolis0000@yahoo.co.uk] Sent: Thursday, May 02, 2002 11:25 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] grindcore, and more --- Jason Cole <Jason.Cole@DigitalMediaWorks.com> wrote: > Grindside? Agh! That's just what I was thinking of. Neurosis is so good! Orchestral metal anthems. Souls at Zero is an amazing album. A few of the members of neurosis have an ambient/noise/experimental project call Tribes Of Neurot. Great stuff too. My ex signed up for a membership to their mailing list and got 1 cd each season. They ran a 4 tape loops for 1 full year and took maybe an hour of the noise each season and put it on a cd. Really interesting to hear the tape decay and all that. Great stuff. That's a great book. Also seems pretty widely read... Brilliant picts therein, especially "Dead" with brain dripping from skull. tasty DS _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

While we're on this grind kick, I was wondering if anyone has heard this new-ish compilation, Dynamite With A Laser Beam? Its a grind tribute to Queen. Locust is on it somewhere and Melt Banana covers "We Will Rock You". now THIS is why i love the idm-list! all the peeps (erm, at least some) up in here just love music, whatever it be. YES! i've been hankering to explore this genre and appreciate all the recommendations. i recently picked up Hanted-Made Me Do It Morbid Angel-Gateways to Annihilation while neither are 'grind' per se, both kick amazing metal ass. Haunted (with members of AtTheGates) is like classic metal updated and infused with a hardcore flavor. not cheesy, but sometimes almost sing-along-able. amazingly tight. and the Morbid Angel is just so beautifully evil. the lyrics are incredibly touching. these guys are not faking the funk on this Satanism shit. in the liner notes one of the dudes is like "I'd like to thank Satan and all his servants. I'd also like to thank my beautiful wife and our son, the light of my life." how cool! the MA is real dark and sludgy and the singing is wicked deep. at first listen it sounds a little monotonous, but on further listen you realize the drum keeps fucking up the time and it just blazes. in fact, MA is coming to NYC if anyone wants to go! donna? any fan of music could certainly gain something from hearing this type shit. np: Braindance Coincidence (i keep going back to this... one of my favorite comps ever. just great songs... and great songs are timeless)

Morbid Angel is just a shadow of what it used to be. Pick up their early release 'Blessed are the Sick' if you want to hear their best. They had another high moment with 'Domination'. The best death metal album ever though is Cannibal Corpse 'The Bleeding'. Oh yeah..idm. Toytronic rocks. Anyone know how to get their old vinyl releases or if they are going to reprint them soon?
