[idm] Synth Question

This one's for the gearheads who can gearspot based on sound alone. I want to know what synth is responsible for a certain sound. The track "Snorkmaiden" off of Kid Spatula (u-Ziq) Full Sunken Breaks (2000) is built off of the sound entirely. The best example is the very first chord. Another Paradinas track, "First Kiss" off of Jake Slazenger- Makesaracket is built upon the sound as well; again, it begins the track as well. It's in a lot of other IDM stuff- I just heard it minutes ago in track 12 off of Tim Telow's "Beauty Walks a Razor's Edge." It's got an attenuated attack that sweeps slightly into a flute/analogue synth sound. This is virtually impossible to do effectively but maybe somebody will be able to help based on the tracks and artists I mentioned. It gives me a subconscious alert feeling because it reminds me of so many memories of the 80s when I was growing up. Any help or just random guesses would be appreciated. IDM content- does anybody dig on Peter Benisch? I just discovered him really. I got some really diverse mp3's and also bought "Soundtrack Saga." It's really great stuff- every style he tackles sounds good in that early 90's Artificial Intelligence vein. "Soundtrack Saga" can get a little New-Agey in some parts with all the conga sounds and female vocals. But, that's really not noticeable after further listens. It's reminding me of the absolute best ambient IDM moments on Bola's "Soup" album. Cheers, Octocounts __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Apologies for typo! I meant "or" Poly 800... not 'of'. Sorry if it caused confusion. I * --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
