I didn't read the exchange on live IDM, but saw the subject lines. Just saw
a fine IDM concert - Plaid, Coil and Mouse on Mars - excellent stuff. Plaid
are not my cup of tea particularly, the eye candy visuals on the 25' foot
screen pretty but lacking in much meaning (my opinion only).
Coil were powerful, fascinating with hurdy gurdy and pipes meshing perfectly
with their electronics and unique vocals. Visually they had fractals for
most of the time with the exception of two songs: a questionable b&w DVD
recording of ill-treated shaven headed prisoners in the former USSR (song
was devoted to prisoners everywhere) and a recording of a videogame flight
simulator of a passenger jet repeatedly flying and crashing (effective).
Mouse on Mars were great: musically a great mash up of mayhem and driving
beats - ok two guys behind a bank of stuff, but both of them grooved and
looked well into it - the sight of that enthusiasm made it so much more
engaging. They had minimal visuals, just stills of what looked like abstract
ephemera, Japanese side streets cut up, frequent (sort of corny) appearances
of Japanese women. Great stuff though, had me boogying in my seat wishing it
was happening in a club.
All the best, Colin.
