It is truly a sad day. From Planet Mu: Well we all knew it was bound to happen. As with all forums that become popular, eventually the amount of spam and childish behaviour takes over and it isn't worth carrying on with it. We're sorry to have to do this to the majority of well behaved users and lurkers, but the rest of you can fuck off to another message board. This may be back in the future in a different form, or not. Dammit...this was one of the few places left that was still worth a shit. -- ________________________ omz beautamous loaf recordings http://www.hotweird.com/loaf

Too bad it had to come to that... that's why moderated discussion forums are really the ONLY solution out there if you want to run a MB... I wonder which board will take there refugees? ----- Original Message ----- From: "lysaabi" <lysaabi@earthlink.net> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 4:46 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Planet Mu board no more

The way to do it is just have a moderator, force you to log in with a real email address to post, and then be able to ban users. Not that hard to set up. - cutups ----- Original Message ----- From: "lysaabi" <lysaabi@earthlink.net> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 5:46 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Planet Mu board no more

Agreed. I do that on my forums now, and while I have had 'trolls' in the past, they quickly get banned and go away, or learn to behave themselves. http://www.joyrex.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "cutups" <cutup@andythepooh.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Wednesday, April 24, 2002 4:49 PM Subject: Re: [idm] Planet Mu board no more

This sucks. Planet-mu is a very good label and I used that board a lot. One of the few places that artists actually engage with their audience in an open forum. This may be a silly question, but was it really that bad there? I would check that board a few times a week and even though the occasional person might get out of line, I didn't see any major abuse. Of course the webmaster would obviously be a better judge of that. In fact now that I think about it, that was a place I got a lot of useful information and there was a good amount of artist/listener feedback. The board seemed to be a vital part of the planet mu website. I mean, it isn't like they update the actual site on a prompt and regular basis for goodness sake. Isn't shutting the whole thing down a bit of an over reaction? --- George Williamson <georgewilliamson@btinternet.com> wrote:

Agreed. I was able to speak directly to Mike Dykehouse through the board, which is comparable to letting a 12 yr. old girl e-mail Britney Spears or...uh, kinda- anyway, that really is a shame; I hope Schmee or Mike P. look into an alternative method that still captures the usefullness of that board-(flamebait alert) God knows I'd rather see a thread started by the Mu artists themselves than hearing endlessly about females in IDM ;) Octocounts __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
