come meet the friendly no type folk as they launch their spring 2002
collection. have a drink, eat a vegetarian sandwich, & listen to the music.
featuring performances by MAGALI BABIN & MORCEAUX_DE_MACHINES as well as
a no-holds-barred DJ set by A_DONTIGNY.
MAGALI BABIN has been a sound artist for 10 years, working with metal
objects, prepared guitars, VCRs & whatnot. a mother of two lovely
children as well as a staple of both the improv & sound art scenes in
montréal, her first CD "chemin de fer" is just about to come out on the
no type label. her performance will be preceded by a spontaneous
improvisation by several young children using sound toys provided by
magali. (we don't know what that'll sound like either.)
MORCEAUX_DE_MACHINES is a duo of a_dontigny & é_dorion, two veterans of
the seminal radioshow-turned-band napalm jazz. they turn a devilish
combination of cheap electronics & wild samples into a dynamic, freeform
flow of music & noise that has astounded many an audience. they are
also releasing their first CD through no type, "liberum arbitrium".
their performance will be followed by a DJ set by a_dontigny who will
joyfully plunder the no type MP3 archives & then some.
NO TYPE is a web label since 1998, but it's also a CD/vinyl label since
last december. "You're not looking at a label that has a quota to fill
or a manifesto which each artist must follow, the name "No Type" itself
seems to be the manifesto and instruction booklet." - record camp
for the occasion, we'll be selling our new CDs at a special price --
some of them will not be available in stores until june, so this is a
good time to pick them up before all your friends do...
