A highly evocative soundtrack to an imaginary Western, its musical touchstones include Morricone, Badalamenti, Adamson, Cooder, Calexico and The KLF's Chill Out. It'll get under your skin, and you won't want it to leave. A Small Good Thing's slow and steady history is now bookended by these maps and explorations of the Wild West, shaped by the gauzy iconography of half-remembered Saturday afternoon TV movies and reinforced by the lonely literary landscapes of Raymond Carver, Richard Brautigan, Cormac McCarthy and Flannery O'Connor. A world of wandering lost souls, damaged cowboys, bad preachers - thems what don't fit in. Disengaged by sheer distance from the heat of the desert, ASGT's music glides into the cool slipstream of ambient space, returning frontier America to its source in ghostly form. Amassing a serious cult following in the US, A Small Good Thing have released three albums since breaking away from the group that originally spawned them, the semi-legendary O Yuki Conjugate. The Leaf Label released ASGT's most recent album, the lost classic Block, in 1997. As well as the regular CD edition of Slim Westerns Vol II, there will be a limited edition of 2,000 double CDs in special packaging including the first volume of Slim Westerns, which until now has not been released outside of the US. Furthermore, a very limited edition vinyl version will include both Slim Westerns albums across 6 sides of vinyl - the first ever Leaf Label triple vinyl extravaganza! Clad in the beautiful artwork for which Leaf has become well-known, these special editions are bound to end up as highly sought after collector's items. Slim Westerns Vol II 1. Crop Duster 2. Leaf at Sonar, Glastonbury, Mutek A Leaf Label showcase has been confirmed at this year's Sonar festival in Barcelona. The showcase will take place in the SonarVillage (the main outdoor daytime stage) on the evening of Saturday June 15. http://www.sonar.es We will also be representing at Glastonbury this year, with a tasteful/tasty 'Breakfast with The Leaf Label' session in the main dance tent. Noon onwards, Sunday June 30, with a line up that will include Manitoba, Murcof and TM, at the very least. http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/ Meanwhile Murcof - aka Fernando Corona - has been added to the bill of this year's Mutek festival in Montreal, Canada. He will appear on Sunday June 2 on a bill that also includes: Pan/Tone (Toronto, CA), Mike Shannon (Montreal, CA), Atom Heart (Chile/Germany), Dandy Jack presents Sieg Ueber die Sonne (Germany/Chile) and Juan Self (Argentina/Montreal). http://www.mutek.ca 4. MANITOBA microsite + other news It's been a little while coming, but Manitoba's flash microsite is finally online at: http://posteverything.com/leaf/manitoba check it out, and let us know what you think! Manitoba was recently awarded Electronica Album of the Year for 'Start Breaking My Heart' in the prestigious 2002 Canadian Independent Music Awards. He has a gong for his mantelpiece and everything. http://www.cmw.net/2002/awards/indiesrelease.html You can find a streamed interview and live session recorded by Dan on his recent trip back to Canada on the CBC website. SUSUMU YOKOTA UK live dates + new releases In his first ever live performances in the UK, Susumu Yokota comes to the UK and Ireland for four very special shows, including two performances supporting Philip Glass (at the Triptych Festival in Scotland) as well as an up-close-and-personal London date. Yokota's debut live performances will concentrate on the material released by The Leaf Label over the past four years, including the classic 'Sakura' and 'Grinning Cat' albums, as well as previews of his forthcoming Leaf long-player, 'The Boy And The Tree'. Far from presenting a static laptop gig, Yokota is promising a fully live show - a slowly unfolding, organic 3D audio experience, with tailored lighting, visuals and intimate atmospherics. Not to be missed! Yokota's heavenly collaboration with Rothko, the 'Water's Edge' EP is released soon on Lo Recordings - you can order it now at: http://posteverything.com/artists/release.php?id=1701 'The Boy and the Tree' is scheduled for September release. won't want it to leave. Oh wow! Really looking forward to this. I've been a big fan of the spaghetti-western-flavored ambience on Slim Westerns vol 1 ever since it's release back in 1994. I even indulged in some similar sounding releases by Morricone, Ry Cooder and KLF. I guess i'm just a sucker for ambient slide guitars! : ) -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
