PIE002 :::
Yesterday marked the release of the second volume in the Piehead Records
2002 limited edition CDR series: hellothisisalex - "the canadian spelling
program".
For those not familiar with hellothisisalex, they are Mark Prier and
Melissa Creasey, a pair of new school analogue kids from smalltown Ontario
who produce warm and melodic electronic music that is similar to artists
like ISAN, Pluxus and Solvent.
A full artist bio, sound samples and more information about the album can
be found at
http://www.pieheadrecords.com/releases/pie002.html. You can
also visit the hellothisisalex website at

PIE001 :::
Reviews have been coming in for our first release, ARC/Aidan Baker -
"Repercussion", and they've been overwhelmingly favourable. Here are some
excerpts:
'The four very lengthy pieces here sound like a lot of other things,
ranging from Steve Roach to Vidna Obmana, from Jorge Reyes to O Yuki
Conjugate. [...] If you are looking for ethno inspired ambience &
percussive atmopsheric music, then you'll find a lot of pleasure playing
this.'
[Frans de Waard - Vital Weekly]
'Clearly [ARC's] most varied and impressive outing to date. Each of the
four long tracks cover a diverse ground of moods and elements. [...] The
music shifts from tribal ambience (à la Steve Roach, O Yuki Conjugate, et
al.) to more abrasive and harsh experiments on guitar and feedback loops.'
[Richard di Santo - Incursion Music Review]
'"Transform" sets the tone as richly textured ambiance and active rhythms
blend. [...] Comparisons to Stars of the Lid are unavoidable but warranted.
[...] Lovely, absolutely lovely. The best thing you haven't heard so far
this year.'
[Mark Weddle - The Brainwashed Brain]

FORTHCOMING :::
Coming in May will be a pair of releases from two Montreal artists, David
Kristian and I8U. David's album is entitled "My Three Suns", and features
mainly beat-oriented material that has a classic IDM feel with nice dark
overtones. I8U's disc will be dubbed "grasshopper morphine", and it's an
enveloping set of microtones and rhythmic pulses that will have you running
for your headphones so you don't miss anything. Sound samples and more info
should hit the site in a couple of weeks.
Also recently received at Piehead HQ is the master for our summer release
by Your Favorite Horse (a.k.a. Chris Jeely of Accelera Deck). Fans of
Chris' work will know that you can never be sure of what you'll get when
you pick up one of his records, and this album is no exception as it ranges
from stark guitar and vocal tracks (similar to those heard on last year's
Accelera Deck album "Shadow Land") to Fennesz-influences guitar'n'glitch. A
track from this album entitled "Shot" is available for download at the YFH
website (www.scarcelight.com) in the Radio Esoterica section, alongside a
live version of a track called "Egg" which appears on the album in studio form.

LIVE :::
A new addition to the Piehead Records website is a live listings page,
where we will list upcoming live appearances by all Piehead artists
(assuming they remember to tell us about them). Highlights currently listed
on the page include a handful of out of town dates (both music performances
and poetry readings) by Aidan Baker; appearances at the prestigious
International Festival Musique Actuelle in Victoriaville, Quebec by David
Kristian and I8U; and an appearance by Vague Terrain Recordings (under
their "real" name) in Columbus, Ohio alongside Terry Riley. Visit
http://www.pieheadrecords.com/live.html for the full listings.
