just a quick update... -e*vax has made an appearance on 2 new compilations CDs. the first is a compilation called "compiled" released by the chicago label Aesthetics. it is available for a limited time with Zingmagazine. the second is called "fuzzy boombox v.1" and is released by the philadelphia label, Fuzzybox. both contain previously unreleased e*vax tracks so be sure to check them out. -in the meantime e*vax has been hard at work on his new album tentatively titled "never sleep". it promises to be far more melodic, more complex, and hopefully more satisfying than any of his efforts to date. *also, for those of you in the nyc area: e*vax is looking for a cello player to record on a few new songs. if you or someone you know is interested please contact: evax@audiodregs.com thanks. ---------------- evan mast audio dregs 470 eastern pkwy #4b brooklyn, ny 11225 usa www.audiodregs.com/evax --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

couple years back thomas brinkmann was releasing a record every few weeks, it seemed. things have quite slowed down and I believe this is the first Brinkmann solo release in nearly a year. he's entitled, of course, and imagine he's turned his attentions to some of the other fine things life has to offer. unfortunately for the avid Brinkmann listener, a bunch of the new Soul Center album on Novamute is old material. The first four tracks comprise his (very good) "Roses EP" that was released around the time of the Soul Center vol 2, and 26 Chicky Boom is a reworking of Zora 1, from the Ernst 12" of some time back (gets a new soul-vocal garnish and biting analog synth solo towards the end). so I'm a little sad that he didn't simply do a CD release of Roses and blow our minds with an all-new pile of Soul Center tracks. Drying my tiny teardrops, I see that, at least, the rest of Soul Center vol 3 is totally solid. Doesn't quite hang together as a piece the way the other volumes seemed to, but what the hell. it's full of Brinkmann goodness, often going for that more aggressive techno sound that he seemed to be drifting towards, but settling back to mellower grooves elsewhere. ------------------------- oh yeah, I got the "Brinkmann Nikolai Petitgand" release on Oral/Mutek. Six tracks. It's really good in a Perlon/Brinkmann kind of way. It's not explained quite what sort of collaboration or compilation this is. First three tracks included samples of French singing and speaking voices, with throbbing minimal grooves. Tracks 4 and 5 sound like pure Brinkmann a la the women's names series. -------------------------- my real discovery lately is environmental recordings. have been, in particular, enjoying Gordon Hempton's "Dawn Chorus", which is unaltered field recordings of dawn breaking in U.S. locations from the Atlantic to the Pacific, mostly birds with bookend recordings of the respective oceans. Partly I'm enjoying the fantasy element of a landscape evoked but not seen, but, in it's beautiful unpitched randomness, it's an amazing listening experience. good night all k --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
