anyone heard the new 12" ?? unfortunately I thought that song was the worst thing on their recent full-length... up there with the safety scissors "puddle" song for embarrassing & unnecessary vocal tracks.. just wondering if it fares any better with the remix treatment.. e --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

interesting... the only safety scissors tracks that really held my interest on the plug research full-length were the ones you disliked so much. the rest of it was ok too, but these were the most interesting because they strayed from the formula the most.... it's the fact that his voice is not the best that makes it work for me though :-) i am listening to the smash TV 12" right now for the first time. the A1 won't thrill you no doubt because it's the same version on the full-length... but the modeselektor remix is pretty interesting. it's a slightly more IDM-influenced reworking, less dancefloor... and the vocals are played down a lot, less integral to the track. the vocals are dominant on the other 2 versions on the flip, and barbara morgenstern actually adds (presumably her own) female vocals to it. it's an interesting variation but entirely successful... however, this was again one of my favorite tracks on the Smash TV disc... so i enjoyed it throughout more or less. The Modeselektor mix is the best, with the Grom B1 mix coming in close 2nd. i'm actually sort of surprised you like Smash TV much at all if you dislike the vocoder vocal treatments, only because it seemed like such a regular thing on that album, every other track practically. ("I Love You Now" remains one of my favorite BPitch selections!) Actually the Electrified CD is one of the most interesting additions to the whole new wave electro crossover thing, really strange sounds, weird vocal treatments, etc., without completely retreading what's gone before, or rather instead creating something that sounds to my ears genuinely new. And as a final aside, the Modeselektor 12" (In Loving Memory) which just came out a few weeks ago is excellent! matt _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

it's just the one track on the safety scissors record.. don't get me wrong, I love the rest of it, but that song (checking my copy for the title...) "your beautiful feet" makes my jaw clench the lyrics are so bad. same with the smash tv track - I've got nothing against the vocoder vocal treatments, but the lyrical content is so awful I can't even think of an appropriate adjective for it. of course now I realize that I had misidentified the song, it's not "nobody" that I take issue with, it's "what about me," from which I will now quote: I don't know what you want x3 I don't know what you need heaven alone, knows the answer but baby, what about me x2 but baby, do you really want do you really want to see me cry etc... drives me fucking nuts. here are the safety scissors lyrics for comparison. I'm a puddle, beneath your feet you walk over and over me I'm a puddle, down on the street watch where you're standing I'm six feet deep. arrggggggghh! I know, good/bad taste is a fine, fine line. amusingly, someone from plug research wrote to me and accused me of "not getting" safety scissors, so let me just re-state .. I like the safety scissors record, a lot. it's one of my favorite plug research releases. I like his voice. and I like smash TV... I just find the lyrics above to be completely intolerable. that's all. e

Haven't listened to Safety Scissors before, but this reminds me of the one godawful track on Brian Eno's Another Green World that practically ruined the album: I want to be the wandering sailor We're silhouettes by the light of the moon I sit playing solitaire by the window Just waiting seasons change, ah, ah You'll see, one day, these dreams will pull you through my door And I'll come running to tie your shoe And I'll come running to tie your shoe. That last bit sets my teeth on edge.... you have to hear it to realize how bad this is....
