I was watching the Oscars and this film called "Copy Shop" which was nominated for Best Short Film (Live Action) caught my eye. So I looked it up and I found that it "consists of nearly 18,000 photocopied frames, which are animated and filmed with a 35mm camera". I watched it on ifilm.com and it's got some nice visual touches, though it's got a contrived, film school feel. But my point is that if they think this is good enough to nominate for an Oscar they should see some of bit_meddler's video work. I also watched a film at ifilm.com called "Fifty Percent Grey", which got nominated for Best Short Film (Animated) and that's kind of fucked up. Saw both of these today myself on the big screen as part of Apollo's touring Oscar Shorts program. Copy Shop is definitely a nice technical acheivement, but I think The Accountant was a better all-around work. Speed for Thespians probably won, though. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Looks like I pegged it - The Accountant won, and of course so did For The Birds. I kinda expected The Accountant to be too flip and too anti-corporate for the voters. Hopefully the shorts program can come out on DVD or something so people can check out this stuff. I was also surprised to find that No Man's Land beat out Amelie - not that it's not a deserving film. Oh yes, and John Cameron-Mitchell was robbed. Hedwig now! --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

yeah, my filmmaker friend michael s. reich has had his films "Eat a Puss Rex, Motherfucker", "Concierto di Scissore", and "A Love That's True" in a buncha film fests worldwide and he was yapping to me today about this odd conceptual bit of moving imagery on our way home back from his scholastic confines in boston to our homes "da money earnin' " mount vernon, ny...from the description it sounds like a pretty predictable yet nonetheless moving climax of duplication beyond control...and jesus the images must be amazing to look at with all the texturization of the copier prints and retouch work done pre- and post-....yes this is blah-blah, apologies...wake me up if you figure out the origins of our culture today in 21 words, no more no less, i gotta catch some zZz's...1 tidewatergemfish oh yeah so i guess the deathchant label is mia for now????
