"Heart Of the Sunrise" vs "Supernaut" eh? Poor Yes... heh.
But I have to disagree with Bruford being _pure_ math... While he'd never
cut in the Meters or the JBs I think Bruford definitely has a sense of
groove that a lot of virtuoso drummers lack. Beside he knows when NOT to
play as documented by his non-playing on the improv 'Trio' off of
"Starless and Bible Black".
As far as live Crimson albums... "The Nightwatch" is an excellent 2cd set
from this era. "USA" is a single cd that's due to be reissued sometime in
the spring. But if you're even mildly interested in this era of Crimson
you should definitely pick up "The Great Deceiver" 4cd set of various
concerts.
Anyone else out there think that
John Wetton's monster bass + Bruford's snare was Techstep circa 1973?
