This new Metamatics album has rekindled my faith in Mr. Norris. As good if not better than the utterly underrated Neo Ouija album that came out unnoticed a few years back. Nice use of vocals. A bit more "clickity" too. Byeway (Clan) is my favorite track on the album thus far... Wondering if this new direction in tone will lead to a signing to Thrill Jockey or Sonig... certainly would fit on both labels. -Mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

There's a beautiful track on Curd Duca's elevator 2 that uses blendered vocals, can't recall the title off hand though. I think there's something similar on Nobukazu Takemura's "scope" too... these are both more "glitchy" though than cleanly re-ordered. I was after something not dissimilar in this track: http://www.quietamerican.org/download/Hush.mp3 and tried out the "glitchier" sond in this one: http://www.quietamerican.org/download/Checkmate.mp3 but without that groovy BoC underpinning the effect is quite different... best aaron ghede@well.com http://www.quietamerican.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

hm, well, i like the funkstorung remixes of bjork tracks, also their east flatbush project remix is nice. hm, what else. in a weirder vein, there's stuff by kid koala, luke vibert, and so on. -rachel (aka dj pie) -- "at this time you can feel balance strength and sphere peaceful levitating the window." --from the instructions sheet for my "magnetic suspension lamp" On Wed, 13 Mar 2002, Frosted Flake wrote:

I'm not aware of those tracks you reference, but I frequently cut up vocals when remixing other artists' works, often to demonstrate to others how I hear songs, which is usually as phonetic gibberish, and not as actual lyrics. For a really good example of what I'm talking about, listen to the verses in my Radiohead Extended Karma Extravaganza (unfinished): http://free-music.com/ken/extrav/audio/extendedkarma.shtml (download link is near bottom of page) Lots of other, very different, aural miscellany at: http://free-music.com/ken/extrav/audio/ - Ken kenzo@free-music.com ken's last ever radio extravaganza http://free-music.com/ken/extrav/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

check out anything by or about Bryon Gysin he is credited with bringing back cut-up method after its initial introduction during the early 20th c, I believe by members of surrealist movement he friend and coconspirator, Wm Burroughs is best known for its use by Psychic TV and B Laswell, let alone ColdCut were not far behind and quite aware of the method and its influence --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Prefuse 73 do a fairly similar thing.. but with raps, mainly, so if that bothers you, be warned. He's on Warp... Some Slicker tracks also do it. He's on Hefty.. http://www.heftyrecords.com Also, since everyone seems to be doing the self-promo thing, around the time Involve released 'Parallel Play' by Patio (a collaboration between myself and Aspen) people on the ambient list were saying the tune 'Purist Trap' sounded like 'Telephasic Workshop'. Not that we'd heard it at the time...
