scott herren has recently completed work on a new savath+savalas EP for
hefty. "cafeteria assembly" EP is due out early this summer and will be
followed up by a full-length later in the year.
we are proud to announce that hefty will be the exclusive manufacturers and
distributors of chicago's aestuarium records. aestuarium is another
component of our network of artist-run labels, as jamie hodge used to work
under the alias, "born under a rhyming planet." we began assisting
aestuarium midway through its first release, philip cohran + the artistic
heritage ensemble, which has since sold out. we will be repressing it on cd
and for those who have been asking, vinyl as well. next up for aestuarium
will be the release of two tracks from ghanian musician, dan boadi. boadi
first rose to prominence in the mid-seventies, topping the national charts
of his native ghana with "abrabo," which according to the liner notes, "sold
like apples." we hope the same will be true of this 12", "money is the root
of evil," which originally appeared in 1978 with a pressing of 500. it was
boadi's first recording made in chicago and more importantly, his first
crossover record.
hefty has recently added seven new titles from matthew herbert's accidental
family of labels (soundslike, lifelike and jotter) to the hefty store,
including the highly sought after soft pink truth ep 12". soft pink truth
is the side project of matmos' drew daniel. we also carry the accomplished
"indoor fireworks" full-length by doctor rockit and herbert's "cafe de
flore" 12". in addition, we have new titles available from phil parnell, 8
doogymoto, and john matthias. for more information, visit the online store
