However, he always seems very disorganized. I think every time I've ordered from them I find some cash hidden in a record and his apologies that this or that wasn't still in stock. And sometimes I don't hear from him for a while. But he's usually helpful enough and has good enough stock that it doesn't bother me. So don't think he's ripping you off, he probably just has a large backlog or is climbing out of a pile of records. Well, I'm gonna have to second the "Bent Crayon isn't the best place to shop" opinion. I've had some success with them, but now that I've moved they don't seem to understand that they need to ship to the new address and not to the old one. This only happened once, but that's enough. I explicitly told them I had moved. And in the past their communication was not always, er, timely. I've had the "weeks go by" thing happen to me, too. They're not *bad*, exactly, but they're not *good*, exactly, either. I definitely wouldn't put them in my top 3 favorite online places to shop. My best online shopping experiences have been (in no order) with: Skimo Forced Exposure Amazon eBay Sister Ray WarpMart CDZone.co.uk And if you can't get it from any of those places, Bent Crayon ain't likely to have it either... ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Would you rate Sister Ray as a good service? I've had nothing but crap about them, because both me and some friends have had to wait over two months before finally giving up... (One CD I ordered I got from Amazon within three days...) I beleive they are absolute poo, and their catalogue (although looking impressive) is complete bull, basically cause everything I've ordered (but won't be in the future) has had to have been ordered from their 'distributor'. I work in retail and this is a crap service. I got most of my FAX collection from my local Classical music store, and they've done me proud. Griping over, eBay is a good source, as well as Amazon. [snip] To be honest, I've only ordered from Sister Ray 3 or 4 times, and I think all of those times was to order Toytronic releases. They seem to have a good connection to that label, or something. Also, when I had to communicate with them via email, their responses were prompt and helpful. However, as I haven't ordered from them nearly as much as I have all the others, I can't really rate them comparatively. ===== .Adam http://www.damek.org/ __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? i order from bent crayon regularly and have had no problems. i actually just got an order yesterday that i placed last thursday, very quick turnaround (pretty large order, too). occasionally they'll be out of 1 or 2 items on a long list and will just leave it out of the order (sometimes I need to figure out what those items were). it's a small shop (1-2 employees at most) and i think john fills all the orders himself...not sure what to tell you other than that. the best way to order is to cut and paste what you want into an email and send it that way... that seems to be a lot faster than using the shopping cart on the site, in my experience. (incidentally, i used to live in cleveland and know that they're closed on mondays, if you tried to contact them yesterday for example). i will have to say that bent crayon has a much better selection than practically ANY site i've used... including forced exposure. i tried browsing skimo for the first time recently and found the search engine thoroughly aggravating... maybe i wasn't using it properly, but i couldn't find practically anything i wanted and it kept bringing up "news updates" rather than a database listing. this is a terrible way to shop online in my opinion. i like the engines on BC and FE much, much better. FE doesn't seem to carry half as much of the more dancefloor stuff I'm into (Gigolo, Rapture, etc etc), especially when it gets more and more obscure.... so i just order from the place with the best selection for what I want. _________________________________________________________________ Join the world?s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

www.bentcrayon.com I too would have to recommend Bent Crayon. If Warp doesn't have what I'm looking for I go to BC. Personally I think the best way to order from them is to just give them a call. You'll find out on the phone whether or not they have what you're looking for. I think the phone number is 216-221-9200, or 221-216-9200. On Tue, 26 Feb 2002, Aaron Trumm wrote:

I was on their mailing list for years. Recently (before year-end) they sent out a mailer saying that they were getting rid of dead addresses and to let them know if you still wanted to continue receiving. I duly let them know. After that everything stopped coming. I tried to re-sub twice, but haven't had another mail-out from them since. I'm really disappointed about this; I used to get loads of interesting information from their reviews. Any clues as to how to get back on? I can't afford to order lots of stuff ... but I do like reading their mails! 2 cents on bent crayon from the lurker i talked to this guy awhile ago and he said he had a guy working for him stealing tons of cash who got fired. so now he is running the whole place himself and he's very very very busy and can't afford to hire someone else. maybe if you live near them you should go apply for a job? i had similar probs, i would email him about something on the site and he would either never reply or take forever to reply and then never had what i wanted in stock. anyways, he needs to straighten that out but its really too bad cuz they were one of the best places i dealt with, and i have ordered alot of stuff from them in the past that arrived in a timely manner, well packaged, reasonable price. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I just tried ordering through Bent Crayon's online store. In Mozilla 1.3/PC, clicking "submit" on the order page sends the browser into a loop with no timeout. In IE 6/PC, the shopping cart can hold only one item at a time! Adding an additional item to the cart removes the previous item to replace it with the last one added. I guess e-mail is the way to go.
