i realize this isn't anything all that new but I haven't noticed it discussed on here much: Languis "Unithematic" (simballrec/pehr) CD This one is a real beauty of a listen. The duo of M.Chloca and A.Cohen combines a variety of influences and sounds on this album, crossing over effortlessly between delicate post-rock arrangements and subtle electronic compositions. At times the overall mood is reminiscent of the Tortoise camp, most specifically the more delicate moments of Brokeback, although the arrangements are less sparse and generally incorporate more electronic production. But after the first two songs things take a decidedly more electronic slant and incorporate pulsing electronic beats alongside similarly delicate electronics, recalling the more subdued Mouse on Mars material from years past or even the more musical moments of Pulse Programming. It's a really healthy blend of electronics, atmospheres, melodies, guitars, live drums and even the occasional vocals to round things out (the vocals remind me of those on Safety Scissors' Plug Research album, understated but with some degree of, I don't know, honesty?). This may seem like a strange name-dropping session but it actually does recall all of these things and more... but manages to stay engaging for an entire listen, without sounding too much like any of these influences in particular. I recommend it for anyone interested by the newer developments in rock-IDM crossover potential (DNTEL, to rococo rot, etc). _________________________________________________________________ Join the world?s largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
