well, if that's what you like you may have a difficult time getting into some of the more challenging minimal techno stuff.

hmm. while "pop" is the most melodic of the GAS i've heard, i think it's the most repetitive. great background music though. give "zauberg" a try if you can. also, if you think you can stomach the repetition try some of wolfgang voigt/mike ink's other stuff. i really like his STUDIO 1 and ALL aliases. also, voigt runs a label called kompakt, most of that stuff is worth checking out. the BURGER/INK album is gorgeous and jorg burger's work as BIONAUT is worth investigating also. there are a lot of other german minimal techno/house labels as well, but i'm not sure if that's what you're really looking for...
quoted 2 lines i picked up the mille plateaux "clicks & cuts" comp cause it =>i picked up the mille plateaux "clicks & cuts" comp cause it = >was supposed to be so ground breaking. i've played it once
personally i think the clicks and cuts comps are crap for the most part. there are a few artists that appear on them that are worth checking out like THOMAS BRINKMANN, VLADISLAV DELAY(the best producer in electronic music today. period.), FARBEN, FENNESZ, KIT CLAYTON,DETTINGER, and REINHARD VOIGT (even though reinhard's tracks tend to be pretty boring on those comps and don't really give a fair representation of his style.)i liked the recent ALVA NOTO album "transform" even though i thought his first one was pretty uneventful. FRANK BRETSCHNEIDER'S "curve" was pretty good too. for the whole "click" genre i'd recommend looking into the raster-noton label over almost anything mille plateaux has to offer. specifically the static bag series. the SIGNAL, MOKIRA, SENKING, and OPTO cds are all worthwhile.
quoted 4 lines i gather that because i like monolake i should probably look into >trying =>i gather that because i like monolake i should probably look into >trying = >to find the basic channel/chain reaction releases of years past. >(good = >luck, right?) but how do these releases really compare to monolake? > and >all this stuff qualifies as minimal techno right?
well if you've heard monolake's "hong kong", you'll have a fair idea of what the chain reaction sound is like. some of the chain reaction cd compilations are pretty good, but they tend to sound very similar. bottom line: listen before you buy. i would recommend avoiding fluxion, for example, who i found to be pretty lackluster. the PORTER RICKS comp. is pretty good and worth checking out. the same can't be said for their later releases. basic channel was a lot rougher around the edges and in more of a "banging techno" vein than chain reaction. the basic channel compilation is a must own, but you should really pick up the 12"s if you can. the MAURIZIO comp. is a favorite of mine, and is the blueprint for all the dub tech house that's coming out now.
quoted 2 lines how much of a distinction do you all draw between minimal techno >and>how much of a distinction do you all draw between minimal techno >and >microhouse?
microhouse is mostly bullshit. basically a bunch of geeks with laptops trying to make 4/4 tracks out of sine wave and test tones. the problem is very few of them know how to compose a techno track correctly. the main difference, to me anyway, between minimal techno and "tech house" or "minimal house" is in the bass lines. tech house tends to have catchier, funkier basslines and the tempo may be a just a little slower than minimal techno. minimal techno tends to be more rigid and a "techno" track almost NEVER has vocals. someone mentioned trying to look into jeff mills, robert hood, etc. while i love some of their work, i seriously doubt you're going to like them if you're into pedestrian, poppy, "lite" electronic music like the things morr music puts out. detroit minimal techno, for the most part, tends to be stark, very repetitive, and somewhat harsh. _________________________________________________________________ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

AAAARRGH. david, i totally agreed with you about nighttime world vol. 2, but this...! Both fluxion albums are fantastic, aural opiates. They are a little spartan if you are not expecting that, granted, but they are a total trip once you get into them. Quite a lot of high end and a lot of drift over pulses and ticks. atmospheric and incredibly effective. They are essential, really. - thomas __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
